BABYWEARING Mommas!!

Hello!

I am hardcore into baby wearing.. its just so beautiful and practical ;)

I love wrapping my 1 yr old on my back... and she loves it too..

however... I am curious to know if any of you baby wearing moms are NOT wearing your toddlers right now due to pregnancy? I just love wearing her, BUT I don't want to risk this pregnancy either. specially considering my history of first trimester MC.

thanks mommas!

Re: BABYWEARING Mommas!!

  • Definitely ask your care provider about this. I'd probably limit it until you get an answer from them.

I know lots of mamas that wore their kids while pregnant, because it's essentially the same as holding them in your arms. But if you have a history of miscarriages, it seems best to be especially cautious.

My daughter is two, and I don't wear her much anymore, so it hasn't really been an issue that has come up for me.

@shehulk723, are you wearing your baby on the front too? or just back carries?

  • I've always heard, as long as you aren't doing any more wearing than usual, it should be fine since your body and muscles are used to it. Almost all the women in my local baby wearing group are pregnant right now. All of them are continuing wrapping everyday with their toddlers. Front and back carries, as normal. I'm still wearing my daughter on front and back as well, she's 19 months. Ill keep doing it as long as it feels comfortable. Your doctor might not know much about babywearing so keep that in mind with whatever answer you get.
  • I wore my toddler all through my last pregnancy. I just tied things over or under my belly.
  • I have a beco and I wear my 7 month old almost daily. We do babywearing ballet class, grocery shopping, walk the dog etc. I am super nervous about wearing him once I am a little further along. I think I might have to invest in a wrap so I can do back carries and not have my belly be touched.
  • @Caileybug I used my Tula all throughout my last pregnancy. I just put the bottom strap under my belly. I like it better than wrapping bc the structured carrier offered more support. However, my wrapping skills leave a bit to be desired. I didn't find it uncomfortable at all.
  • @possitivethoughts I've been doing all front carries lately!  I have a brain injury and wearing is soooo much less painful for me than carrying her around.

  • I back carry my kid constantly. It's easier than picking him up in my arms.

  • I wear my two year old as often as he will let me. I prefer back carries because its more comfortable for me and he doesn't think it's an invitation to nurse all day.

My daughter nurses so much lately, espically in a front carry in my tula. There is no real need to wean. I'm letting my daughter do it on her own. Its all person preference
  • I am high risk and both my OB and my perinatologist never said anything to me about weaning my daughter last time.  However, the sensation of nursing eventually started to feel like I wanted to claw my skin off every time she latched that I eventually weaned her.  My youngest still nurses and for now it is ok even though I am convinced he only getting drops.  I still feel a letdown sometimes, but the claw my skin off sensation hasn't returned yet.  I am praying to God that does not come back, because I would like to tandem nurse.  If it does I most definitely will wean.  My kids are hardcore at nursing and nurse every few hours, so it's not like I could just push through.  Nursing is still a big part our day and night.
  • Wearing as we speak with our ergo.  But I also wrap a lot.  Wraps are especially great during pregnancy because there are tons of carries that you can do where there is no strap across your abdomen whatsoever.  Love babywearing!

  • @possitivethoughts I would ask your doctor when s/he thinks you should wean. In most cases, nurses during pregnancy is fine.

My two year old will nurse nonstop one day, then go 8 hours without asking the next. I don't plan on weaning because I hope to tandem nurse (and tandem wear) both of my babies.
