My grandmother pointed out to me that the next full moon is Christmas night. Old wives tale she said most babies are delivered on full moons. So let's weigh in on this fact or myth? All in good fun.
I've worked L&D and on full moons we didn't have more babies being born then usual. We did see more women then usual that said they were in labor and checked them out then sent them home. Also the births we did have on those nights were more chaotic and hectic then usual. Family was less calm and the womenin labor were alot harder to keep peaceful on nights of full moons. So I'm saying myth
I have NO idea the scientific evidence related to full moons, but I will tell you that I started believing that they affect people's behavior after working as a nurse!! I know, I know. But for real.
I can't speak for L&D, but my mom is a nurse in the oncology department and she said whenever it's particularly crazy at work, they look it up and it happens to be a full moon
Statistically speaking, Tuesday is the day of the week with the highest birth rate, which I think is neat info. And I've also heard labor is more likely to start at night.
Re: Full Moon, Low tides & babies???
So I'd imagine the same is true of labor and birth!
