Christmas gender reveal to GP's... Need ideas!

So I had my 17 week check up yesterday and I had no idea we were going to get to find out the gender! It was a great surprise! We are having a boy!!! So now we want to tell to surprise the parents as part of their Christmas presents. They think we're finding out the gender at the anatomy scan first week of January. We want to do something present-like but not sure what...

I know a lot of us are announcing on Christmas! We decided not to do anything special. We are just going to tell everyone.

I like the idea of buying an ornament (blue in your case) and wrapping it up as a present for the grandparents.

  • We are doing a boy themed gift for the GP's as well.  I'm letting my 10 year old son decide what to put in it. Look forward to hearing other ideas as well.

  • We are doing ornaments so that the grandparents can hang on the Christmas tree. Have you looked on Pinterest?
  • It's a surprise for us too! We wrapped up the sealed envelope and will open it with my family on Christmas morning!

  • For my side of the family we are having DS and my mom open a present that either has a little sister or little brother newborn onesie in it. (We find out the sex on Christmas eve)
For DH side I made a family tree and will be adding the baby in either pink or blue so they will figure it out that way.
  • You could do cookies with either blue or pink icing and have them open up the box of them.

Sorry, that's about as creative as I get at 9 in the morning haha!

  • We were going to get something for them, but my dad and step mom will most likely now be coming to our house for Christmas morning since everyone else has other plans and no one is going over there. We planned on opening the envelope from our scan Christmas morning so we're just going to have them find out then.
  • We will have our anatomy scan on 12/23 which was a surprise since we were already scheduled for the following week .. Yay for cancellations  !!
So we decided to announce to both families on Christmas. We will wrap this poem along with another wrapped present that will say "it's a ..." on it.
I'll have my mom read the poem first then open the second present which will be a picture of the ultrasound with either a pink bow or blue bow tie.

Here's the poem we will be using ::

Ten little fingers, Ten little toes
Two little eyes, One little nose
One little mouth, two little ears
This poem will be lots of cheers

So is it pink, or is it blue
We think it's time that you all knew
The doctor searched while baby turned
With her next three words here's what we learned

((We are not including this part of the poem))
    (1) She told us then, that it is true
We'll be buying lots of BLUE
    (2) She told us then, that she thinks
We need to start buying lots of PINK

  • I've seen the ornament idea in a few different varieties before-- you could get the clear, plastic ornaments that are fillable and put in glitter, or ribbons, or pink/blue with an ultrasound picture. I've also seen colored salt-dough ornaments dyed/painted either pink or blue (a heart or some other simple shape).

If you go the baked goods route, there are good/easy recipes for iced cookies, truffles with pink or blue inside, or cupcakes with pink/blue inside.

Another idea would be to assemble an "At Grandma & Grandpap's House" basket with a few onesies (one could be boy/girl about Grandpa and another boy/girl about Grandma), a book, a blanket, etc. Carters in particular has a lot of family-member themed onesies.
  • We are planning on putting pink or blue helium balloons in a box and wrapping it like a normal gift.
  • We'll be wrapping a baby outfit that reveals the gender! Both Grandmas are so excited to find out!
  • Fortune cookie?  Etsy has cute ones.  Even eggs that serve the same purpose (also on etsy).
  • We are wrapping up a really cute outfit set we found. Going to have the grandparents open it on Christmas.  DH already told his family.  I'm making mine wait until Christmas (evil laugh).  Although I think I'm going to be stealing the poem a pp posted above and include that too b/c that is super freaking cute!

  • We decided to get a clear christmas bulb and put blue glitter and confetti in it. My son also bought a bunch of blue candy to add to the box. We are so excited.
