*UPDATE* Passed out at work :(

So, long story shortened, I passed out at work. I work at a mental health hospital, so I was able to get vitals done immediately. My blood pressure was a whole 72/46. Called my OB and he wanted me to come in then, but I was in no condition to drive. The nurse in the ward I work in gave me salt tablets and had me go walking and we've only been able to get it up to 90/60. Now, headed to the woman's hospital.

*UPDATE* I got home from the hospital about 2 hours ago. I'm fine, no dehydration or anything. My blood pressure was all over the place the past few hours while being monitored. It spiked to 154/96 and back down close to where it was when I had the episode earlier. My OB simply asked if I had been having headaches - which I had - and then non-chalantly attributed the blood pressure craziness to standing too long and not sleeping enough. I guess it's getting to be time for modified work schedules/duties and extended sleep. He also gave me a prescription for some pain pills for the headaches and promethazine solely as a sleeping aid. My lesson, even as a STM, has been learned!! *Take care of yourself!!!* I'm glad it's nothing serious, and I hope everyone will be careful with themselves as well. Don't work through the pain/stress!!

  • @june2016baby No. I usually have "low normal" blood pressure, but it's still usually 100/60. I know blood pressure sometimes drops in the first half of pregnancy, but I have no clue how to explain this.
  • That's no good, especially if your BP is usually not low.  Hope they figure something out and it's not anything serious!
  • I am sorry this happened today :-(  Keep drinking fluids and rest up!!  Hugs!  Glad you are OK.

  • I passed out at 4.5months with my daughter in a crowd of people. Thankfully someone caught me so I didn't face plant. No one did my vitals while I was conscious, and I just went straight to the hospital and they just monitored me and my daughter for a few hours while they determined that it was my blood sugar level that unexplainable dropped out of no where. I didn't have gestational diabetes or anything. Just randomly passed out. So hopefully you'll be just fine. :)
  • Oh no! Thank goodness you had medical professionals present! I have felt like I was going to pass out during this pregnancy and have had to sit down immediately. My OB wasn't too worried, said blood pressure drops are normal until halfway through the second tri. Definitely worth getting checked out though to narrow down what it was!

  • Good grief. Glad you were able to get care immediately, and that all seems to be well! Take care of yourself.
  • Glad you're doing well and thanks for updating everyone!
  • This happened to me a few times when I was carrying the twins. I also have naturally low blood pressure. I had to increase my sodium intake, as well as drink Gatorade at least once a day. It worked, and I had no issues after I started that.

I passed out at work too, twice in a 45 minute period, when I was 5 weeks, I'm 12 wks now. I am a nurse and my blood pressure went really low too. Now, for me, I keep getting the auora that I'm going to faint, which is a different feeling than vertigo and dizziness. I hope yours stops, it's a horrible feeling. And I've only been at this job 2 weeks. I worked in mental health for years and I know how hard you work. Make sure you are staying hydrated, and if you feel lightheaded, hot, disoriented, ringing in ears, or anything like you felt before you passed out, sit down.

  • Phew* glad you're ok. Fainting and low blood pressure sucks. I had issues with it while in college
  • I've been getting bad headaches & nearly fainting while standing for about a week now. I have naturally low blood pressure & I had low blood sugar with DD due to HG, hopefully my midwife can give me more information during my next exam :/
  • If this ever happens again, please DO NOT get up and walk around! That's the worst thing you can do especially with your blood pressure so low. You are extremely luckily you didn't pass out again. I am a nurse and also teach nursing students. The best thing to do is lay down with your feet elevated until the feeling passes and stay hydrated. I've passed out too, and got the feeling like I was going to, several times during my first trimester, and after about a half hour I was fine for the rest of the day.
