Hcg doubling question

My hcg levels *almost* doubled.
269 to a 522.

The nurse said the numbers are good. But I'm very anxious. Obviously. Is this okay, to not fully double?

If it helps, my blood tests were 46 hours apart, not the full 48. Thanks.

Re: Hcg doubling question

  • It's close enough, especially since they're in the range they're in now.  If you said you only went from 30 to 40, then I might be more concerned.

  • My RE uses 48-72 for doubling. So you sound good!!
  • Thanks. Feeling slightly better. January 4th, my dating ultrasound, cannot come soon enough
  • I agree with PP, I think you're in the right range. And if your doctor isn't concerned I'm sure it's fine. I always find they are extremely cautious and err on the side of something being wrong so if they're optimistic than that's a good sign!

  • I am not sure....but just had a question. I never had my HCG levels tested with DD1, do just some doctors do this? Or is their a reason why they test?

  • I've wondered the same as @mooncusp22. I've had a loss before and my OB still won't let me come in until I'm 10 weeks along and she said that's when they'll confirm my pregnancy. I wish I could get blood work because waiting 10 weeks to see if your pregnancy is even viable feels like torture.

I get bloodwork done early due to my history. I had an ectopic rupture so I only have 1 tube & ovary. They monitor me closely until we know the baby is intrauterine. @mooncusp22
  • @mooncusp22 @JournoGrl23

I demanded it. I had a miscarriage 5 weeks ago. The anxiety is killing me.
  • @ThePax89 I wonder if I could call my OB and demand it too. DH and I have been considering whether or not I should at least call up and ask. The anxiety is killing me as well. It's causing panic attacks and causing my anxiety disorder to worsen. I won't be able to breathe until I know it's a viable pregnancy.
  • @JournoGrl23 yes. Of course you can.
  • @Igem4 Thank you. That shows that it definitely doesn't hurt to ask. Even if they moved my first appointment up a couple weeks, that would help a lot.
  • I am curious as to what days you went in for the bloodwork, how far along were you? My first test on CD28/ 4 weeks and my level was 150, next draw is 72 hours later.. eeek! Congrats on your BFP !!

I keep seeing everyone talking about hcg levels and I'm wondering why my levels haven't been checked? I had my "confirmation" appt and vag u/s at what they thought was 7w2d but actually 6w3d (as I expected) But there was no blood draw at this visit. Only test they did was a urine pregnancy test and the only results I got were "positive." Is it normal that they didn't do blood work? My next appt is at 10w1dd.

  • @Car0liiine I think the reasons you didnt have blood-work is probably because they did the u/s. My dr did the blood work on me because she wants to wait until later for my u/s (around 8 weeks). Just my guess, I would not be worried.

I had my first blood work done on 12/11 (73) they said it was very low and had me come back in on 12/14 (291) now they told me my next visit will just be the ultrasound

  • @Car0liiine many doctors don't check HCG levels. It's usually only done if the woman has a history of loss or there are other concerns (like spotting). It's actually pretty unusual that they did an ultrasound so early to confirm the pregnancy. Many doctors won't even see women until they're 8-10 weeks along--one doctor in my area doesn't see women until they're 12 weeks past their LMP. Most take a positive HPT at face value.

@Befree2013 I went on cd 31. I believe I was 13 dpo. I also went on cd 33. Based on my LMP (my miscarriage date) they consider my further than I think I actually am. Consider my days loosely. We really don't know the dpo
  • @Car0liiine like PPs said, not all doctors check levels. Mine won't even do it for women with a history of loss. I was told there's no medical benefit to checking the levels because you can't stop a miscarriage from happening (although I wish they would check me to quell my anxiety). They just trust positive hpts and make an appointment at 10 weeks for the confirmation ultrasound. Sounds like every doctor is different in what they do.
  • I previously asked my doctor about level checks and she told me that their policy is that they won't check unless you have had over two miscarriages. Even then, she told me they may not. I wanted to be checked for low progesterone so that's how the question came about. I ended up finding a different doctor that would.
