Infertility

Shall we talk PIO?

I have previously introduced myself but about me: 29, DH 31- TTC and onto IVF. My fresh cycle was cancelled last month due to overstimulation so having my first FET on 12/17!!

So shall we talk PIO?

Ladies, I was TERRIFIED. I cried to my doctor and told her I couldn't do it. I literally researched it and looked up any post I could and was so so anxious about it!!!
Then....

It was so not bad!!! I started laughing bc, well, I hardly felt it! The day after, it's very sore to the touch- like I fell on my bum. But the actual shot? The scariness of that crazy big needle?? It was seriously FINE!

Anyone else totally terrified and finding it to be ok?!

Re: Shall we talk PIO?

  • I have had 4 injections so far and now I laugh about it! I was terrified too! I HATE needles! At first I was sore, but today, totally fine! my DH and I have a little routine:

I ice for 10-15 minutes and the syringe part of the PIO rests on a heating pad. DH injects and then I apply the heating pad and walk forward and backward like I'm doing the salsa with the heating pad on my bum! It cracks me up now, sounds so funny, but it works for us!!

Good luck with your FET! Mine is tomorrow!! We have a board: December FET Buddies - you should visit!

  • Good luck!!!!
  • I've done about 11 injections so far... and though they aren't bad the more you do the more sensitive and sore to touch your bum begins to feel.  Today was the first day I drew back on the needle and there was blood in it... so I wasn't happy having to stick myself a second time but hey... gotta do what you gotta do.

Oh noooo!!!! Your transfer is coming up, yes?!?!

  • I'm three weeks in to PIO. They are not bad at all, but my hips/butt are starting to get sore. I have to watch how I sit and move around more often if I'm sitting for a long time. I just started to get some bruising, but they are very small. The worst part is the initial small pinch of the needle going in, but definitely not as bad as I was anticipating.
  • @mallholl I had my FET on December 8th. I started PIO injections a few days before my FET. 1 more week until my BETA.

  • I was absolutely terrified! Now the needle doesn't hurt, my injection sites hurt! This lower back pain is worse than the needle for real.
  • I think infertility makes you a needle rockstars! I too was A BIT squimish with needles, but after 6mo of infertility treatment, with blood draws EVERY time I would go in (sometimes several times a week) I'm now like, "stick it in me, I've seen this all before!!" I only had to do one at home, though, because I was Clomid with trigger. I had my hubs do it, and that was a mistake. Talk about a timid injector! LOL.
  • I don't miss those injections at all. I'll be starting them up again. I had to do them my whole first trimester. By the end every time we pulled the needle out, blood shot out like it would in a horror film. It was kinda funny. Also, I could feel where we gave the injections for months afterwards. I never tried ice. Maybe I'll try that this go around.
