2nd Trimester

So much pressure

Apparently, I have a posterior placenta and was told during my first ultrasound that I'd "feel everything sooner." I'm 18 weeks and haven't felt the baby move, but the pressure on the front of my uterus is terrible at times. I swear this child is trying to push it's way out through my belly. Anyone else experiencing this and/or have suggestions that have helped with the discomfort?

Re: So much pressure

  • Sorry im not dealing with a posterior placenta but just wondering if your pressure is constant or comes and goes. I started dealing with braxton hicks around week 18 and my uterus gets really hard for a few seconds a couple times a day. Maybe it could be that? Have you talked to your doc about your discomfort?

  • Mine is posterior also. I didn't feel baby move til around 23 weeks.I also had alot of pressure that came and went. When it hits I just lay down and relax.
  • I have my next appointment Monday so I've been holding off on a call to the office. The pressure comes and goes but is worse after I've been standing or walking for a long time.

  • A majority of women have a posterior placenta. When you feel the kicks depend on baby and your body. Thinner women tend to feel it sooner. I am a FTM and felt movement for the first time around 15 weeks. The pressure is probably how baby is laying. I get it at times too.

  • I actually have the opposite with an anterior placenta and previa...but I feel a lot of pressure too, probably from the placenta. Warm baths and compresses help but when I walk I feel like the baby is going to drop out. The good thing is that it won't. And it'll probably shift a lot more and hopefully into a more comfortable position. Goof luck!
  • Posterior placenta is actually the most normal position where the placenta is located on the backside nearer to your spine instead of in front. Anterior placenta is the one that's in front and where you therefore may feel less movements to the outside from the baby. The pressure you are feeling sounds like Braxton Hicks contractions.
