Burning after sex

I wasn't able to have sex during my last pregnancy due to pelvic rest and then bed rest. We've done it a few times this time (with approval from my doc) and there is always burning immediately following. Is this normal with hormones??

Re: Burning after sex

  • I've never experienced it. What did your doctor say about it?

  • I agree this is a question for your doctor. What may be "normal" for some isn't for others. Every woman and every pregnancy is different.

  • This happened to me pre-preg and a few nights ago. Ask your doctor for sure, but I've read it can be normal. It's a pH imbalance or something like that. It's never lasted for more than about 10-15 minutes for me, but definitely ask your doc.
  • Have you tried lube?  That "burning" could be from chafing.  Our chemistry down there is way different during pregnancy and you could be extremely dry.

Get some coconut oil. Odds are the hormonal shifts are causing some drying of the vaginal tissues. It can result in tearing. These little abrasions burn when warm liquid (urine or even just warm water) touches them. It's a good idea to invest in lubricant + an antibacterial-- the coconut oil is a natural solution for all.

  • It could be due to hormones or it could also be an infection (yeast infection?). I would let your doctor know.

  • Lube, works wonders. I have been very... dry since I became pregnant
  • I had the exact same thing actually I still do. And my swab came back normal but I asked for antibiotics anyway incase it just didn't show. The antibiotics don't hurt the baby and is safe in pregnancy. Better safe then sorry I always say. I have heard bacterial infections can cause miscarriage and with my loss last year not saying it caused it but I had the same thing so I went though panic mode this time and tried to clear up anything if something was wrong. I would get it checked out just in case.
