Depression

A place for mothers (to be) with clinical depression or for those who are experiencing depression as part of pregnancy or postpartum. Because society tells us that we should be happy and excited right now but sometimes we're just not. And that's okay and it should be talked about more. This would also be a place to discuss the pros and cons of various treatments (antidepressants, therapy, etc)

Re: Depression

  • I'm currently on medication for depression/anxiety. Zoloft. But my OBGYN wants me to wean myself off of it for the duration of my pregnancy. I'm a little scared to do so. My anxiety is through the roof... And I just have a hard time handling life a lot of the time. I feel like a failure and that I should be able to handle things. Millions of women do. I have nothing to complain about yet I feel so stressed out all the time... It's not easy dealing with these feelings...

  • I totally relate! I have had major depression and moderate anxiety since puberty. When I finally found a medicine that worked (Celexa in my case) I was thrilled. I asked at my preconception counseling appointment and was told it was fine to take until third trimester. Then i happened to mention it to my gp at another appointment and he says he would switch me immediately to prozac. When I went back to the OB after my bfp, she switched me to Zoloft but increased the dosage??? There's been so much in the news this week about the link between SSRIs and autism that had me totally scared, but I have to admit I'm even more terrified of not being on anything. I had already noticed that my Celexa want working as well a few weeks into pregnancy. I've been in that horrible dark lonely place before and I don't ever want to go back. I just want to be happy and enjoy my pregnancy!
