Antibiotics during 1st tri?

Has anyone had to take antibiotics for an illness at this point? (I'm 10 weeks along).  I'm going to the dr this afternoon, I'm pretty sure I have strep (didn't sleep last night due to throat pain, woke up with a white patch completely covering my tonsil). I'm also concerned about physically keeping down an antibiotic...if I'm positive for strep I'm asking for a liquid form. My gag reflex is horrible and I can't take pills :(

Re: Antibiotics during 1st tri?

  • Yes. I had to take antibiotics early in the first trimester for a UTI. I hope you feel better soon!

  • I just finished an antibiotic for a UTI. I will say that I think it was rough on my stomach since I am not eatting as much, but I just make sure that I get some yogurt.
  • I'm taking them now for bronchitis. They're horse pills but I have somehow managed to get them down. I'm sorry you're sick. Hope you feel better soon!

  • I just finished a week of antibiotics for a uti (2 x a day) I made sure to eat a little something with them and take a few sips of milk it seemed to help.
  • I was taking them for pneumonia when I found out I was pregnant.
  • yup, had a tooth abscess and was on them for a few weeks. Hope you are feeling better!!! They usually prescribe amoxicillin which I'm pretty sure comes in both liquid form and chewable tablets.
  • I had strep when I was just 4 weeks. My doctor put me on amoxicillin which he said was safe for pregnancy. I took it the full ten days. I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks and 8 weeks because of a previous loss and everything was great both times.

Sorry about the strep though! I was miserable with mine, especially while being pregnant. Hang in there!
  • I had a UTI when I was 8 weeks. I had to take two a day. I took it right after I ate something, even just a little snack. They weren't huge but I've always had trouble swallowing pills. I gagged a few times :( sorry you are sick!
  • If it's strep they can also give you a one time shot - I always offer it because I'd much rather have a shot than 10 days of abx. Penicillin is class B so no worries.
  • Thank you ladies for the get-well's! My strep test was negative, but the nurse said my tonsil looks really bad, and I could be too early to get a positive test. I have liquid amoxicillin! Hope I feel somewhat human tomorrow!

It's delicious. I got to come home and tell my daughter that mommy has the same kind of medicine the doctor gives to her lol! Actually looking forward to taking it tomorrow AM after it's refrigerated!
