Double Dose Clomid - Considered 1 or 2 of lifetime max?

Hey ladies, I've been thinking recently and keep on forgetting to ask my RE, anyone here experience having double doses of Clomid in one cycle and would that count as 1 of 6 lifetime uses or 2 of 6 lifetime uses? Just food for thought that I can't seem to figure out. Thanks for your input.

I would venture to say it would be more likely considered 2 lifetime uses (maybe more like 1.5). Basically, when there are guidelines like that it is because our bodies take a beating when we take the medication. That being said, if you are requiring higher doses its possible your body doesn't respond to it the same as another person. Guidelines like that are generalized and not taking the indivdiual's medical history into account. That's why its best to consult your RE, trust and follow their protocol. I would suggest if clomid isn't working after 3 tries that its possibly best to move towards other methods. Again, you and your RE should make that decision though.

I don't have experience with double doses, but I did ask my RE about lifetime max, and he gave me two pieces of info that you might find useful:

1. If you don't have lining thinning on your first Clomid cycle, it is not something that happens over time--either it happens or it doesn't.

2. The max was initially because of concern about ovarian (I think) cancer. It seems like that link is no longer thought to exist, but there is still some caution about lifetime Clomid use.

@oxinfree thanks, i didn't think of it like that. I'm definately letting my RE take the lead on what is best, i just like to discuss my options and this was one of those questions that isn't as important and i usually forget by the time I see her. She suggests another round of clomid if i need it, or switching to Letrozole if that is my preference.

@vnegron87 I asked about the lifetime max about letrozole to my RE during last appointment but he didnt give me a straight answer. He wants to do another 2-3 cycles of letrozole+iui and if this is not successful then switch to injectables.

I always forget about my questions during the appointment, this time i wrote them all and asked one by one. It really helped.

I saw that you did the IUI today, so exciting !! FX and GL with your TWW.

@ZoeFer thank you...i started this cycle not feeling too good about the outcome, but now I'm really excited. Last night i took an OPK and had started surging naturally right before doing trigger and it helped to make this cycle feel as natural as possible (almost like everything is happening the way its supposed to).

I have to take your advice and write everything down, that will definately help.
