lower abdominal pain

All weekend I had pressure in my lower abdomen and yesterday it was so bad I could hardly concentrate on my work.  Today, I went for my regular doctor's appointment and told them all about my pain and discomfort.  The Dr checked out everything and said everything was fine.  He said it was just the fact that I have a small torso and my muscles are stretching down there.  Anyone else experiencing this?  If so, what do I do for relief?

Re: lower abdominal pain

  • Yes! I had this for a about 5 days last week. I called my mom and was like "I swear he is coming out of me!" The pressure was so strong and no matter what I did it wouldn't go away. It would let up when I laid down and take the pressure of gravity off. I also had an appointment and everything was fine. They said it was probably just the way he was positioned. My mom said she had that pressure with my brother for the entire third trimester. Mine did go away after a few days. I hope yours eases up soon! You're not alone, but I don't really have any good advice. :(

Could it also be gas pains? If it is just muscles stretching not much you can do but take it easy. Gas pains will pass haha.
  • I have it and because of the pressure (she's already down on my cervix), period-like cramps, and lots of contractions I have threatened pre-term labor. I've had two NSTs, two checks for fetal fibronectin and cervical checks. If my contractions/pressure/period-like cramps continue I'll be sent for the Celestone shot and will be kept for 24 hrs with a magnesium drip to be monitored. Mine started with the pressure and contractions a little before 28 weeks though and I'm now 32 weeks. Also, some doctors are more strict and I'm not sure what all your doctor checked, but if he did an exam and checked your cervix and it's closed he may not be concerned. Some things are normal and some aren't, and couple depend on if it last continuously or comes and goes, or just happens once. I would try and talk to the doctor again if you're still concerned about it. Also, for the record I have a long torso.
  • I'm sort of in the same boat as @22snc12. I'm 33 weeks tomorrow with twins and have been having contractions and cramping for weeks. I do twice a week NSTs and keep hearing mixed opinions. On one hand I get told that it's just because they are running out of room and it's irritating my uterus. Everything is fine though and no reason to worry about it. One the other hand I'm being told by L&D that if it keeps up to come in right away so they can monitor me and do a magnesium drip with IV and what not to give them a nice boost.

  • I have been having some pains lower, but I asked my dr tonight and he said that is where my tendons and muscles are anchored so when baby moves it pulls and will hurt. He said that it's normal and will just start to hurt from now until the end. Good luck to everyone in some pain!
  • I am having pinching in my cervix. Anyone else with that?

Not sure if it's the same thing you're feeling, but sometimes I can feel baby girl moving down there and it feels like she's gonna punch right out of my cervix. It's quite painful.

  • I've had the same problem, as well as sharp "ripping" pains in my vagina. Went to the MICC and they said "it's normal, you just have to live with it" (it wasn't my normal hospital or I would've punched them..)
I haven't found much relief other than standing still with my legs crossed and holding pressure when I get a bad one.
