Eat Sleep Repeat

My 3 month old would like to eat every hour to every other hour. During these loooong nursing sessions, he falls asleep at the breast. Since he has pretty bad reflux, he needs to be held upright for 15 minutes following each feeding. As soon as I put him down after that 15 minute period, though, he immediately wakes up and won't go back to sleep. I've tried putting him in his Mamaroo set at an upright position, but he truly won't nap for more than 15 or 20 minutes at a time. So instead of three long naps, he takes ten micronaps each day. Any suggestions for me??? I love feeding him and holding him, but I thought by now I would have a little time off!

Re: Eat Sleep Repeat

  • Honestly I find it easier to just let him nap on me some days (like today… we laid on the couch and napped all day!) or he naps in his swing or bouncy chair. You just have to keep trying things until he conks out! It changes every day. With the reflux I find a good burp and then the bouncy chair and he doesn't have the bad issues or propping him up in the boppy.

All in all babies are weird! And he will eventually sleep… have you ever heard of a ten year old that only slept in 15 minute spurts?

  • Has he always had this issue or is it new? Inefficient nursing and reflux are related to tongue tie. Check out the tongue tie support group on Facebook for info.
  • Not sure how you feel about nursing on demand, but you might want to try gradually stretching out his feedings to 2.5/3 hours. It sounds like he's snacking. Also, if you aren't already, try to keep him awake so he gets a full feeding.
