16 week appointment (standard operating procedure)

This is my second pregnancy, first was twins, so treated as high risk and given an ultrasound every visit. My question is since I am only pregnant with a singleton this time, and considered low risk, what normally goes on during the 16 week appointment?

Re: 16 week appointment (standard operating procedure)

  • I have my 16 week appointment this week and they said it'd be 15 minutes. They'll get my weight, urine, and blood. The dr will meet with me if I have any questions and that's it. I think it's pretty standard for a singleton.

I hope they bring out the Doppler :)

  • Good to know! My hubby was wondering if he should leave work for it.
  • I'm able to take a lunch break to have this appointment. Thank goodness. I still haven't told work and didn't want to tell them I had another doctor appointment and had to take an afternoon.

Lurking from May-- at my 16 week they took my weight, I gave a urine sample, they asked if I was having any pain or other very bothersome symptoms, and then they listened to HB on dopplar
  • I asked my doctor specifically about DH coming to the 16 week appointment, and she said no need. There won't be an ultrasound for me and it will be a short one.
  • Thanks everyone!
  • I'm low risk with my second singleton, first pregnancy with my new dr. My previous dr did things how PP are saying - this dr gives an ultrasound at every visit until the 24 week one. I think it just depends on the dr sometimes.

If anyone is remotely interested, here is/was my schedule so far:
pre-conception appt - blood, urine, genetic analysis (H and I are carriers for some stuff, all good though fx)
8 wk  dating US, bp, urine
12 wk NT scan US, bp, urine
16 wk no US, but bloodwork I believe (dec 28)
    20 wk anatomy US

ETA that I weigh in every time... though doc always says to leave my shoes on, doesn't he know how precious every extra pound is??
  • Had mine yesterday, weight, urine, BP check and listened to heartbeat with doppler. Took about 5-10 minutes in total.
  • Those in between appointments are always super easy. Urine sample, listen to heartbeat, chat with dr about future appts, go home. In and out in 10 mins.

  • For me it was urine sample, weight, blood pressure, doppler and Q and A.
  • Just had mine last night and it was the normal urine, weight, blood pressure, baby's heart rate and "how are you feeling?". I get my first ultrasound at my 20 week visit
  • Nothing exciting. Pee in a cup, check weight, temperature, and blood pressure. Listen to baby's heartbeat. Discuss any questions/concerns and maybe get a lab order for the second round of blood work for the genetic screening (if you are doing the NT ultrasound and blood test type of screening)
