Trouble TTC

Clomid Issues

So I've taken a little break from TB after a stubborn cyst and just some stress and discouragement but thought it was time to come back. I was fairly active in the TTGP board but have only introduced my self on the TTTC.  I am posting on this board because i think that y'all probably have more knowledge on infertility procedures than the TTGP board. Let me briefly reintroduce myself. Ive been TTC since August 2014. I am 24 and DH is 29. All tests have come back clean, SA was awesome and i do not have PCOS. i Started seeing an RE in may after my OB put me on Clomid. I have now done 3 clomid cycles with timed intercourse with a trigger shot. This month we decided to go with IUI. Typically I do my base line U/S followed by 100mg of Clomid CD 3-7, Second U/S on CD 10 or 11 and usually have 17 or 18 mm follies and do my triigger around CD 14. This month I went in on CD 13 and only had a 10 mm and 11mm follie. The RE put me back on clomid for another 5 day at 150mg CD 13-17. Went in on CD 19 follies were 20 mm. I triggered that night and did my IUI today CD 21.  My question is has this ever happened to anyone else. I haven't ever heard of someone having to do to rounds of clomid in the same cycle. If so and you didn't conceive what was your next step? Did you go straight to injectables, Femera, or did you continue with clomid? Thanks for you help ladies. Its good to be back! I look forward to getting involved again

Re: Clomid Issues

  • Welcome back!!  I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you with the clomid (I've never taken it), but my RE says injectables are so much more effective.  So they are probably a good option if you don't get pregnant with clomid.  GL and FX that your IUI is successful and that you have a quick and easy 2ww! :)

  • I actually just had a convo with my RE about possibly moving onto something besides Clomid, and I think I am persuaded to stick with Clomid.  I have done 3 IUIs w/Clomid (currently in the tww for #3...FX).  I responded very well the first 2 times (multiple 20 mm follies on each ovary when I went in for the second u/s, no lining thickness issues or issues picked up in my bw).  This third time, I had a cyst leftover from last cycle that probably resulted in fewer follies, but still not terrible--I plainly asked my RE what he thought of my response this cycle.  My understanding of Femara is that it is an increased risk of birth defects (according to my acupunturist) and with injectables is that there's a higher rate of multiples (according to my RE--he said something like 15% twins, 5% more than twins, whereas Clomid is 4% twins).  So the conclusion he urged was that I am responding well to Clomid, so there would not be a benefit to me of switching stims that would outweigh risks.

I guess I would suggest asking your RE how s/he thinks you responded this cycle.  You could ask what having to do another round of Clomid in the same cycle does for your chances of success, compared to being ready to go after taking it CD 3-7.  I feel a lot better after going over these sorts of things with my RE.  GL!

  • Hi!! I just went through something similar, except I did 5 days 50mg of Femara and I had no activity on my right during the baseline and a very small follicle on the left. I was put on Clomid 100mg immediately for 5 days. Did another ultra sound yesterday, still no activity on the right. The left side had one who grew to 26! I had never heard of that before, but my nurse said that I can do that 3 times. We go in tomorrow for our first IUI. I hope that the Meds help you!!!! Good luck!!
  • @Hopietaylor91 i hope at this point this info is irrelevant to you and that your IUI resulted with a BFP. However, I'd like to respond to this post. I'm in my second iui cycle in which i had to do double doses of Clomid because i was unresponsive to the first round but matured 1 then 2 follies after the second dose. Last cycle resulted in a BFN. Getting ready to do IUIs tomorrow. If i get another BFN i will be switching to Letrozole. However, my RE did not seem at all concerned with the fact that i was unresponsive to the first rounds and was considering starting me on 150 MG clomid if this cycle wasn't successful. I'd much rather try a different medication becauae it doesn't seem right that it takes so long to "work".

But, at the same time, i have heard from women who have done the double dose and have gotten their BFPs those cycles. FX for you!
