Decreasing supply 8 weeks pp

Hi ladies,

I wanted to see if anyone has had this experience?

8 w pp and I've been back at the gym. Yesterday everything was normal w my supply in the morning- I even pumped 3oz after feeding lo. I took a pretty intense spin class and since then, my boobs have been deflated. When I squeeze, milk barely comes out.

I gave lo a pumped bottle last night but was able to do a motn feed. I'm having him suckle from me this morning and if he seems hungry, I can break into my stash. Really bummed bc there isn't much there.

Anyway for those that have been there, what's going on? Was it the spin class or dehydration? I'm doing research and will reach out to the Lc but looking for some others' experience as well.

Thanks!!

Re: Decreasing supply 8 weeks pp

  • I'm guessing probably dehydration. Being well hydrated won't increase your supply but being dehydrated will definitely decrease it. I used to walk religiously when I was breastfeeding my daughter and if I forgot water I would notice a dip in my supply

That's what I was thinking bc kelly mom says that exercise doesn't decrease supply. If that happened I am assuming the human race would be sol. Ok time to down some
Water. I know I've been bad about it :/ thanks for your reply!

How soon after you drank water did you notice your milk come back?

I exclusively pump and have been for 6 weeks now (my baby is 8weeks) and I totally notice a pretty significant dip in my supply if I am not eating enough for the day and especially if I haven't been good with my water intake ... Everything I've read says we should be drinking even more water than when we were pregnant !
  • @rms924 usually a few hours after that same day is notice she would eat better. I didn't pump with her so I don't have a for sure time but if I increased in the morning by the evening I was fuller again

I am really focusing on the water today. On the
Food front, how do people manage to lose weight and continue to breastfeed?

  • I'm following this bc I had the same exact thing happen- started running and noticed supply decrease. I have been conscious about water but may just need to add a little effort to be extra hydrated.

I'm struggling with this! I lost 20lbs in the first week after having him, but the last 15 pounds haven't budged in 7 weeks. I had high hopes that I would be able to fit into my work clothes come January, but now I'm wondering if they'll be too tight.
  • @rms924 I have no idea honestly ! it's so hard :(
  • It's water and protien. When working out you need more of both. A breastfeeding mother should devide her weight by 2 and eat that many grams of protein daily... More if you are working out. If I miss my pea protein drink in the afternoon I don't have enough milk at night.

I've had 4.5 liters of water today, easy workout, and I've been eating a lot of protein and calories. That plus fenugreek and pumping and nursing. Keep you ladies posted on the supply! Hope this works :)
