I have a pituitary tumor. So far my pregnancy has been pretty easy, but I fear breastfeeding may be an issue. My OB hasn't said anything about that, but it wouldn't surprise me if the tumor has an affect on it. My OB was specifically concerned with the potential for vision changes. Speak with your provider.
Hi, I think for other women to relate/help it would be useful to know: in which part of the brain is the tumor located, when was it detected, how big is it, what did your doctor recommend, have they prescribed any medication or would it require surgery, are you seeing any other specialists (other than your OBGYN) etc.... In any case I believe talking to your doctor is the way to go.
Not sure if this will be useful but I will share just in case: I also have a pituitary tumor. It was detected before I got pregnant by an endocrinologist. At the time (June 2015) my support team (family doctor, gynaecologis and endocrinologist) thought I would need fertility treatment but in the end I didn't need it (thank God). After 2 months of treatment to reduce the size of the tumor I got pregnant and I couldn't be happier!
I am 17 weeks and I visit my OBGYN and endocrinologist on a monthly basis. My endocrinologist is still heavely involved as I have also developed some thyroid issues (that aren't too abnormal during pregnancy and that have to be monitored with blood work). I am also seeing an optimetris who performs "vision field tests" to monitor the size of the tumor; if the tumor has grown then vision would be affected.
Morning sickness and constant nausea during the first trimester aside...my pregnancy has been great! I am very excited! My appetite is back, belly is growing, gained 2 kg and I can't wait to find out if we will be having a boy or a girl!
I truly wish you the best and I am sorry you have this added stress.
