Full moon on Christmas Day!

So I'm reading online that it'll be a full moon here on Christmas Day. Wondering if there's any truth to more babies being born during a full moon? Hubby and Mom are both nurses and swear by the fact that full moons make patients crazy and induce labour!

I guess so - This is also causing my mom to think that I will have a Christmas baby. She keeps texting me Christmas themed baby pics, outfits.
With my first I was induced and in recovery when the full moon hit. That night was crazy busy for the nurses and so packed that I had to share a room for a night. So maybe there's something to it?

Edited, because apparently the bump hates my emojis.

  • I work in EMS and full moons do bring out crazies! Lol. Boss is convinced that I'll be on leave after I have DD on Christmas. Everyone else is convinced she'll be here this weekend. I'm just miserable and suffering through BH that keep getting stronger, but never becoming consistent.
  • I worked in a rehab (physical therapy, not drug related) and it's definitely true. The craziness is definitely more crazy on a full moon. Mind you I dealt with more older people (recovering from heart surgery, hip replacements, etc) and we didn't have any pregnancy related issues but I can vouch for the craziness of the full moon.
  • I had my second 3 weeks early on a full moon.

Haha! My MIL is a PTA at a nursing facility, my dad is a paramedic, my husband is an EMT, I'm a dispatcher for the company dad&DH work for, my mom is a 911 dispatcher, and my FIL is a correctional officer at a local jail. We all agree that full moons are awful!
  • I noted the full moon months ago. It was the main factor when deciding to stay at home for Christmas. I'm a Christmas baby, and I hate it. So, I'm hoping to hold out as long as possible!
  • Oh em gee...I work labor and delivery...it's so true.
  • Although I have heard this a lot, scientific studies have not been able to prove this phenomenon.

  • Not only does it make humans crazy, it makes animals crazy too!!! I used to work in an animal hospital and we hated full moons...trying to get blood from an asshole dog who then is even MORE of an asshole is not fun.

But it's really funny you brought this up because while I was waiting in line at a store the other day an older couple in front of me was asking when I'm due and they mentioned this full moon phenomenon that I had never heard of. It definitely made me wonder...especially since Christmas is literally a week before my due date!
  • My son was due on a full moon and was born 14 days before (so literally half way between the full moons)

But really I am a high school teacher and full moons bring out the serious crazy.
  • I saw this and immediately thought "YAY I love full moons" but after reading the thread I'm like "Ohhhhhh right... that could be fun"

Anywho Full Moons are awesome and I'm stoked to stay up late and look at it with my hot chocolate and Christmas Jammies :D

  • My son's EDD was on a full moon. I ended up being induced the next day. But being curious, I asked my nurses and they told me that it was actually eerily quiet during the full moon. Now mind you, the night after I had my son, it was like the circus in L&D... Who knows. I'm due less than 2 weeks after Christmas... definitely possible (although not preferred)
  • My family is jinxing me. I'm due Jan 16 but it's also my third so they are saying she is gonna arrive on early on Christmas because of the full moon.

Even my doctor swears by the full moon. Something about the pressure change?
  • I'm marking my calendar to remember January 24th ;) lol
  • Lurking...

My due date is Christmas Day. Here's to hoping that it works! I'm so miserable at 38w I can't imagine going over my EDD.
  • When we went to birthing classes at the hospital a couple of weeks ago, we had two separate nurses bring up and swear by the full moon phenomenon. I know it might not be scientific, but as a high school teacher, I fully believe in a full moon making strange things happen!
  • My daughter was born 3 days after her due date during a new moon. Baby boy is due on the 5th so I'm hoping I get lucky and the full moon brings him early!
  • Due Jan 1 and everyone is convinced I will have the baby on Christmas or at least be in labor.
At this point I'm okay with it, I don't see how I'm gonna last 2 more whole weeks! I am miserable
  • I keep joking with my family that my water will break at precisely 6:30pm on Christmas Eve..
I guess Christmas Day works too.

Due date is 1/4 I'm ok with a Christmas baby- my parents on the other hand are acting like it's the end if the world
"That poor baby only gets presents once a year! He won't know the difference between Christmas and his birthday"
    Shut your face!
  • Woo, my birthday!

  • The nurses where I delivered swore by the full moon as well. Sure enough, Christmas baby!
  • @scornwell717 my water broke at 5am on Christmas Eve and he was born at 1:47pm on Christmas Day =]
