How to tell my students I'm Pregnant!?

Hey guys! I'm a 4th grade teacher and I was wondering if anyone had a cute way that they told their students. Also is 16 weeks too soon to tell them? What's your opinion? I really wanted to tell them before Christmas break! :)

Re: How to tell my students I'm Pregnant!?

  • When I announced, I put a secret message in a math puzzle I created online. Students practiced their multiplication while solving. :-)

Just give parents the heads up no matter what before you do it; I sent my e-mail home the day I let the kids know.

  • Cute idea! I just found one on teachers-pay-teachers. Yeah I wrote a letter. Sending it home with the kids the day I tell them. @sorarose
  • I also teach 4th grade and told my students last Friday. I didn't think to send a letter home...oops. I don't have the most communicative parents so I don't see it being an issue. Anyway, I did a mystery message word search for my students. I made it holiday themed so they had to hilite all the holiday words and then the leftover unhilited letters spelled out "Mrs. Satcher is having a baby". They all loved it and were super excited.

  • Eek I didn't let my parents know. What did yall say in the letter home?

  • I just let them know I gave their kids a surprise puzzle that said I'm pregnant. I may have included any arrangements I had made already with the team/principal regarding maternity leave plans, but I can't remember. You don't owe the parents a dissertation, but some may get nervous if they don't know what's going on (e.g., due date).

  • There's a cute book called My Teacher is Having a Baby that I read to my third grade class and did some activities that I found on Google when I was pregnant with my DD.
  • I told my fourth graders on Friday, and we did a picture puzzle message that they had to figure out. They loved it! I didn't send anything home to the parents. There really isn't much information right now other than I'm due in June, and I didn't feel it was neccessary. Didn't send one with DD either...

  • I decided I'm going to tell them Friday. I found this cute worksheet on Teachers Pay Teachers. It's a math decode puzzle where at the end it says, "Your teacher is going to have a baby!"
The letter I'm sending home is by request of my principal. It states when we're expecting and that I'd keep them in the loop and plan with the long term sub in order to follow out the 4th grade curriculum. We have a very involved population of parents so I think that's why I had to send a note home.

I did too. Hopefully, they will be like my parents were and supportive!
