For LOs sleeping longer stretches...

Up until this week we were still waking LO up to eat every 3 hours during day and 4 at night and giving him 3 oz. LO is 6 weeks old. He still wakes on his own every 3 hours during the day but has started sleeping longer stretches at night(YAY!) My question is do you give LO more when he sleeps longer or do you start with your normal and feed more if he still seems hungry?

We are exclusively pumping.

Re: For LOs sleeping longer stretches...

  • My LO is 8 weeks and this week he has been sleeping 6 or 7 hours straight at night. He eats 4 onz and I give him that 4 onz when he wakes up. He seems a bit hungry when he finishes, but when I burp him he is ok so I dont think he needs an extra ounce (at least for now)
  • FF here, we offer the normal amount and then give her more if she still seems hungry.
  • FF here, LO is up to 6 oz every 3 hours or so, he will get a bottle around 7-8 and then wake up around 2-3 for another 6 oz then sleeps till around 6-7. And sometimes he sleeps they the night .
  • My 6 week old takes 6 oz at bedtime time, sleeps 6 hours then it's 4 Oz and 4 hours for the rest of the night and 6 oz when he is up for the day then again, 4 Oz and 4 hours for the rest of the day .
  • My 3 month old (6 weeks early) eats 5 oz before his 6-8 hour stretch and then 5 oz after then 4 oz for each of the 4 daytime bottles. It adds up to 26 oz a day which is 2 oz per lb at this point. My ped said 2-2.5 oz per lb per day is the recommendation.
  • Were exclusively pumping as well. We give him 3 oz every 3 hours or so during the day and then 4 oz before.we.put him to bed and again when he wakes up at night.
He usually sleeps one 6 hour stretch and then it's back to 3 hour intervals. If he ever seems hungry after a feeding, we give him more.
  • My LO seems to stock up and will drink 3-4 oz around 7-8 and then another 3-4 oz around 9 and then sleeps until 4 or 5am. We feed her on demand, so whatever she eats, she eats. She refuses the bottle or pulls off the breast, so we don't have to worry about her getting overfull. I do notice occasionally, if she drinks less at bedtime, she wakes up much earlier.
  • My LO is 6 weeks and eats very 3 hours during the day and between 6-9 hours at night. During the day I've been offering him more but have not upped the amount I give him when he wakes up. Will start offering him less and less at that wake up feeding once he hits 8 weeks to try to wean him off it.
  • I'm so happy that your baby is sleeping longer stretches through the night !! Yayyy ! My baby is 8 weeks old today... She's been sleeping her longest stretch of sleep at night since she was born and 8+ hours through the night since she was about 4.5 weeks (we are soooo beyond blessed) ... She definitely does eat more before bed but not all at once it will take her about 3.5 hours of eating then resting then peeing and pooping etc before bed --- I am exclusively Breast Pumping as well and I just continue to feed her until she is full. I figure she knows if she's still hungry or not and she will cry if she's still hungry lol. I've been kind of just following her lead with eating since day one and now she's sleeping 10+ hours through the night ! :) ❤️
