Mucus plug? (TMI)

I have been having a snotty discharge. It's clear with no color at all. I have also noticed that my vagina is very watery. I'm 32 weeks and this just started happening today. I am calling my widwife in the a.m. I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this or know what it could be.

Re: Mucus plug? (TMI)

  • An increase in discharge is completely normal at this stage.

  • I've had an increase. When I pee, there is a lot of clear snot like stuff in the toilet. My OB wasn't concerned.
  • I know every pregnancy is different, but with my last two pregnancies- the mucus plug literally looked like my lady parts just blew green snot everywhere. Almost like goo.
  • Yeah your plug with be smeary with blood, maybe not bright red more like darker old blood, or maybe pink. but it won't be clear. An increase in discharge is totally normal. I'm on baby no. 4 here, your plug will be much thicker almost sticky.
  • I've slowly lost my plug. My doctor wouldn't listen when I tried to voice my concern so I called my grandma (she's a nurse so I call her for everything) told her it was snot like and sticky and then I had a small amount of pinkish blood. But my mucus plug had a slight greenish tint and came out in small sections so I would watch for it.
  • If it is slightly bloody, it's OK, but if your mucus plug comes out and it has a brown or green tint, it means that it could contain meconium, and you should tell your doctor right away. If the baby inhales meconium, it can cause severe issues or worse. Best to let the doc make that decision.
  • Don't let above comments scare you. With both my daughters it was slightly green, and they were fine. No meconium.

I think @stephanienjer was just wanting everyone to be safe than sorry if you had a slightly greenish tint mucus plug. She did say *could* be contaminated with meconium. Either way I would still call my doctor or MW and let them know what's happening.

  • I've lost part of mine and it looked like my vag had a really bad sinus infection. It wasn't clear - it was definitely a very yucky yellowish color. Clear sounds like normal discharge to me. But then again I'm not a doctor

How would meconium show up in your mucus plug, unless you water has broken? If there was meconium present would be in your amniotic fluid.
  • If you go beyond this board, and even on other articles on the Bump, you'll see they say it. I swear I didn't make it up. Just because it doesn't happen to you, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
Ask my coworker who just lost her grandson this way.
  • I've read its normal for the mucus plug to have a green tint...now I'm confused!

  • All I'm saying is that your doctor--if they're like mine--says better to be safe than sorry, and to call and ASK them.
If they say no big deal, then it's no big deal. I just fear sometimes we're taking our medical advice from people with one personal experience.
If something goes horribly for one person, it doesn't mean it will for the next, and vice versa--if something doesn't happen to one person, it doesn't mean ignore the symptoms for yourself.
