36w4d with a bad cold and cough!

Anyone suffer through a cold with cough in your pregnancy? I sent DH out for some delsym 12 hour, because if I lay down I start having coughing fits. I haven't had much sleep in the last 72 hours, best I got was 2 hours in the recliner this morning. Anyone have any helpful hints or cures? I haven't been sick like this since I was a little kid. Thankfully I have a doc appt in the morning!

  • Aside from discussing appropriate treatment for your symptoms with your provider at your appt tomorrow, drink loads of water like it's your job, rest as much as possible today, try some emergen-c, and sit a humidifier next to you all day, if you have one. The humidifier is magic. Feel better!

  • I have bronchitis right now and hot showers really help
  • I also suggest bladder control pads for your cough
  • Same as PPs, water, humidifier, and hot showers are your best friend. I've been trying to kick a cold/cough for the past couple of weeks and I definitely notice a difference on the days that I don't get my water fix.
  • I've been fighting off the start of something
I've got the runny nose (only at night) and a cough (sometimes phlemy)
But that's it... Been like this for a few weeks now...

I hope you feel better OP.
I wish I could suggest pregnant safe things to do but, I'm a FTM and I'm screwed if I get sick lol.
When I get sick I live on NyQuil severe which is not preg safe :(
  • I've had a pretty bad cold for a few weeks now and the only thing that gets me through is sudafed so I can actually breath, blowing my nose like every 5 minutes, and gargling warm salt water for the cough. My sore throat is mostly caused by postnasal drip so the salt gets the nasty out of my throat, but it may be different depending on your cold.
  • I can also vouch for the humidifier. I am fighting a bad cold and it has made such a difference. I've been using it at night and wake up feeling much less clogged up.
  • I'm just getting over a nasty cough and cold, I feel for ya! Somehow in the middle of it my acid reflux, heartburn and morning sickness returned with a vengeance and I turned into a puking mess.

I agree with PPs, lots of water, rest however you can whenever you can, hot baths and showers (try Epsom salts in the bath, they've been known to help draw out toxins).
I also make a "hot toddy" without the whiskey, that seemed to help a bit with the cough.

Honestly the last few days have been the most miserable of my pregnancy, I couldn't wait to get back to the regular "misery" of the 3rd tri lol. Really hope you feel better soon!
  • Peppermint tea with honey and lemon, Claritin (regular not D), hot showers, cranberry juice, water, and lots of rest (if you can) - I started getting a cold last week and took two days off work to rest and was able to beat it fairly quickly. I also went to chiropractor twice during that time to get adjusted and she popped my ears and I could feel the fluid drain from them, which helped my throat stop hurting. I'm still not totally convinced that adjustments help with being sick, but it did go away pretty fast.
