My doc said right after my section with my son that I was a great VBAC candidate. I am having a good discussion with her tomorrow about the hospital, their rules, their capabilities. I don't want to move docs but I am getting nervous about my country bumpkin hospital. She will allow me to go go go this time or so she said last appointment.
My due date by LMP is February 27. My 2 ultrasounds were measuring for March 4/5. I am pushing to go my the ultrasounds. Also looking into a doula but have to make a hospital decision first.
I'm am trying for s vbac. So far my dr seems to be pretty on board as long as my body goes into labor by itself and progresses like it should. A few weeks ago they scheduled me a csection "just in case" which kind of annoyed me... And they Scheduled it for 39+1 weeks because it's easier to push back then to schedule earlier if need be. But yesterday at my ob appt, i asked to get it pushed back until at least my due date. So Hoping I go into labor on my own around my due date! My dr did ask how long I was wanting to go before needing a csection, and I told her as long as I'm allowed to go. So we'll see! Edit to add: I'm a little nervous that I won't know if I'm in labor or not. I never had contractions last time! Also it makes me nervous because with my twins I wasn't dilated AT ALL at my 36 week check. So it makes me nervous that I won't dilate on my own this time and end up having to have the csection.
My MW/hospital allows for up to 41 weeks, must be spontaneous labor (they won't induce VBACs).
At this point, I'm not super confident that it'll work out My ultrasounds are dating me at 2/28, but my LMP date is 2/22 and they won't change it. That already gives me a week less to work with.
If they want her delivered early because of something like low fluid (my problem last time), I will try to transfer care to a different hospital to see if they'll induce vs going straight to a c/s. I don't mind switching late in the game. If I have to have a c/s and I know ahead of time (breech or something similar), I will go to the other hospital anyway because my insurance coverage is better and my MW group knows that.
In theory, I *should* be a good candidate. My DD was born at 37w due to oligo and IUGR. They sectioned instead of inducing because she was frank breech and my fluid was too low to try to turn her with an external version.
My OB is pushing for RCS but he did say in the event I went into labor on my own he'd let me do a TOL. I'm not sure how much faith I have in that happening.

Still on the books for a VBAC. I haven't had any trouble going into labor spontaneously in the past so odds are good for me! Spontaneous labor at 40 weeks on the dot and 38+5.
Doctor is willing to do balloon to aid dilation if needed. Also willing to do a tiny bit of pitocin if needed. "Gentle induction" is how they put it.
I need to talk to them about how long I can go. I don't think that will be an issue though. I have another ultrasound coming up on Monday. Anxious for that!
Well I had my appointment today and it basically seems like I am probably going to have to switch doctors/hospitals. My doctor will let me go to 41 weeks but only 41 weeks from my LMP scan which is 40 weeks according to my dating ultrasound. They do not have wireless monitoring and require an epidural as soon as I arrive. If I don't go on my own she will induce but with cervidil and pitocin. Not foley bulb or less invasive. Boo. She did however tell me that she liked me - one of her favorites and she would recommend a friend of hers from med school at a larger more equipt hospital. If I don't like that doctor or hospital she can recommend me to a doctor at a hospital about an hour away that they refer their high risk patients to. She then said I am for sure not high risk. I plan on going to the 2 hospitals she recommends as well as another that is closish to me. All of which are more equipt. Agh I don't really want to switch this late in the fame but I want the best chance possible.
My midwife is onboard and even encouraging me to go for vbac. She said they might be able to let me go past 41 weeks, if all is well. We are going to the most vbac friendly hospital in our area.
My hospital and OB office are supportive of my plan to try for a vbac. I see a bunch of doctors and midwives in my practice and the answers about how long they will let me go are very different depending upon who I ask.
The most conservative OB said she'd let me go to my due date, maybe a day after, but would want me to have a csection already scheduled just in case.
Most of the midwives seem to be OK with letting me go a week over my due date. One of them told me a story about her own successful vbac.
Hubby and I are standing our ground together and have no plans to let the one woman bully us into scheduling a csection in advance.
Talking to my labor buddy about my soon to be ex hospital requiring an epidural as soon as I came in. She was surprised - made me wonder.... How many of your hospitals require epidural as soon as you are admitted??

This is really odd. When I was pregnant with my twins, they required you to have an epidural in place but did not actually require you to have medication pumping through it. It was basically there as a precaution for immediate action to avoid general anesthesia.
Someone mentioned their country bumpkin hospital... I don't think you've got anything to worry about. My extremely southern and behind the times hospital does not even allow VBAC. And they are the only hospital in the area. Nearest one that will allow me to VBAC is over an hour and a half away! I'm really ticked off that I have no choice. And they won't even let me wait until my due date (Feb 15th) to schedule the repeat section because "its a holiday and we are closed".
I wish all of you trying to a VBAC the very best! Good luck ladies! I hope it goes well for you

I've wondered about epidurals with a vbac but forgot to talk to my dr about it. She didn't say anything about having to have one put in right away though.

Mine doesn't, but I can see the logic behind it. I'm guessing they just want it in place, but not running.. That way they can numb you for OR quickly if needed.
I'm on my 3rd vbac (1st baby was c section because he was breech and then I had 2 vaginal deliveries). Once a vbac, always a vbac. My practice lets me go until 41 weeks and then we start induction methods: balloon, tiny bit of pitocin. If I get close to 42 weeks we schedule a c section. It's a practice that's known for doing vbacs so they are very supportive and encouraging. I'm encouraged to not use an epidural because I was told you're more likely to have success with a vaginal birth if you don't use one. I'm surprised a hosptial would have a policy of administering an epidural to any laboring woman. My hosptial does require a saline lock (sometimes referred to as a hep lock) to be put in place, which allows them to hook you up to an IV quickly in case they need to. But it doesn't interfere with moving around or anything. I also have to have continuous fetal monitoring but it's one of the mobile ones so I'm not restricted on moving around. It's awesome that you all are trying for a vbac! I know it's daunting but I think it's such a good thing to at least try. I wish you all (us all) the best!
wesome sauce-- toured the new hospital tonight. I am switching to this one for sure. I can't believe how well it is falling into place. Even if I have another csection I feel like I am doing things right and giving this the best chance. They have telemetry units, don't require epidurals of VBAC patients, she reccommended the doula I was leaning towards with out me telling her who I have talked with, my doula can bring her birthing tub and I can labor in it just not actually birth - the hospital has squat bars and birthing balls. I am hyped.
I don't like that this thread is falling to page 2 --- how is everyone else doing?

Good read for husbands that are on edge about VBAC or don't understand true why.
