Not sure if this is normal....

For the past week or two weeks around 34/35 weeks pregnant. I have been feeling utterly exhausted. I can barely function.

I go out to the store, I have to come straight home because I don't have any energy left to do anything else (or my feet are to swollen to walk)

I stay home, I'll take 1-3 naps a day. I don't work, I haven't since October, but everyday I find myself with less and less energy.

I'm dizzy 95% of the time, I've lost my appetite, I don't really feel the need to drink anything, I'm tired all the time.

I don't know if this is a normal 3rd trimester thing, I just know I feel like crap.
Sometimes I don't even feel strong enough to go to the bathroom, or if I do the room spins and I'm scared I'm going to fall over.

Re: Not sure if this is normal....

  • Exhaustion is normal. The excessive dizziness is not. Have you mentioned this to your care provider? You should.

  • Yeah, I've been feeling everything you just described except the dizziness. The dizzy feeling is not normal and you need to talk to your doctor about it.

  • Tiredness is totally normal but the dizziness could be caused by any number of things that your doctor should definitely get checked out. I know I get a little dizzy in the morning when I'm hungry or get up too fast to pee in the middle of the night. If you're dizzy all the time it's absolutely worth a call to the doctor right away.
  • I agree with above- you should tell your doctor. Dehydration can make you dizzy and tired though -- but I don't think to the extent you are mentioning

I've mentioned the dizziness to my OB.
She said dizziness is normal and is caused by different things at different stages of pregnancy... I've had it all three trimesters..,
Usually it's a light headed feeling like I'm in a balloon or I'm floating... Or that feeling right before you pass out.
But occasionally it feels like I'm sitting on a record player going around and around...

I've never had a hangover (I've never been drunk)
But, I would say how I feel on a daily basis is similar to a hangover (according to how people describe it)
  • This is exactly how I feel and my doctor hasn't expressed much concern so I would suppose it's not a huge deal.
  • I've felt this way and my issue is super low iron. I take a double dose of an iron supplement and still feel like junk but I am sure it would be much worse without it. Hopefully your doctor can sort out what is going on for you. Be gentle with yourself and try to drink lots.

  • I really try to take it easy. I thought maybe I was over doing it.
But, I just can't seem to shake it, I may talk to my doctor about iron. I'm pretty sure they did an anemia test on me a few weeks ago, if it was abnormal she would have informed me.
My mom has decided I'm no longer allowed to drive myself anywhere because 1. I could go into labor any time (her words) and 2. Because I'm always dizzy/lightheaded.

I know exhaustion is normal, it's really the other things I'm getting concerned with.
  • I worry the dizziness could be from severe dehydration. Even if you don't feel the urge to drink I would highly recommend trying to drink anyways. I know I'm always a better water drinker at work than at home so I get that. But try the best you can bc staying hydrated is so important for you and baby! Hope you feel better soon!
  • The dizziness is not normal. Call your doctor. Drink lots of water and make sure you eat enough protein. A snickers bar is good of your blood sugar is low. The Sugar get your blood sugar up and the peanuts keep it stable.
  • Buy a cute cup to drink out of. That encourages me to drink more water. I also tend to drink more water when I have a straw.
  • Yeah, I have cute cups I was just thinking about that. I do tend to drink more when I have a straw.
I do drink, I just don't get "thirsty" and I'm well aware I don't drink as much as I should.
I'll try using a cup and straw tomorrow hopefully I'll start feeling better.

    Thanks y'all
  • I thought I was the only one with a weird cup/straw association! I swear I have never been so hydrated as when I bought a pack of brightly-colored straws and a designated "water" cup.
  • I think I get it from my mom lol. She ALWAYS carries a cup with a straw wherever she goes.
I just tend to like drinking or I drink faster with a straw.
I'll dig out my straw cups tomorrow...
    Operation hydration is underway!
  • I spent a few hours wrapping presents today and am exhausted now! I was sitting on the floor for crying out loud... Nourishing these growing babies is hard work, hang in there! ☺
  • I'm the same and I agree with @MssyMmmy
I'm on iron tablets 2 times a day and get my blood pressure checked at my weekly visits as my BP was low.

I was tired, exhausted, dizzy, seeing dots like flies in front of my eyes, sore all over... Just constantly feeling hungover and drained.
Doc gave me these iron tablets a week ago and I feel like my old pre-pregnant self already.
Next time you see the doc ask them to check your iron levels and blood pressure
