Budgeting app

Hey ladies! I feel like Ive been popping in and out on the board and haven't been consistent so sorry in advance, hopefully I can be more regular! I feel bad posting discussions when I haven't been a great contributor! Anyways, does anyone use a monthly budgeting App? I downloaded Mint but it's asking for ALL my credit card info which freaks me out a little.

Re: Budgeting app

  • I like good budget.

  • We use YNAB )You Need a Budget). You can use it for free for a month and then you have to pay once to have it forever. We love it and have been using it for two years.
  • We use good budget too! It's free (there are paid upgrades, but we just use free) and is entirely dependent on info you put in, rather than syncing with credit cards and bank accounts. My husband refused to have anything that actually accessed our accounts or stored the info, for security reasons.
  • My husband uses Mint and loves it. He's been using it for a 4-5 years. He is IT professional, so he knows his stuff. He said it's totally safe and read only. It's can't write to or take from your accounts. We found it very useful because it helps you categorize purchases to keep track of your spending. He even has our retirement funds in it, giving us the big picture on our finances. Two thumbs up from us!
  • I also use and love mint. The reason it asks for you online banking info is because it draws the balance info and transactions and puts them all in one place. I like it because I can set budgets and it doesn't matter which card we use to pay, I can see and categorize the purchases all in the same place.

  • I used and loves mint as well and I had talked to one of the IT guys at work who said it was just as safe as any online bank.

We switched banks though and they don't connect to it. It made me sad

I have to second meggyme. I do understand the anxiety of putting all of your financial information in one place; however, for accuracy I don't think it can be beat. Keeping track of finances on paper simply doesn't work for me because I inevitable forget to write something down. Mint takes care of it all. Similarly, by tracking all purchases in categories, it really makes you self aware of how you waste money so that you can try to tackle those issues (I used to go out to dinner way too much). Starting now, before the baby, seems like an ideal time.

Also, I look at it this way. Since Mint alerts you to any crazy, out of the ordinary purchases you might make, if someone were to get a hold of your info, you'd probably know even sooner than normal.
  • I use Mint, too, although I do wish it had some more options -- I'd like to be able to get rid of the Mint standard categories (not just add my own) and have more than one user login. It also keeps treating our mortgage as a cash account, so I finally had to disconnect that one. From reading the help center posts, it seems lots of other users have the same requests/issues. Still, there are a lot of things I like about it -- it'll work until I find the perfect program!
