Help...TMI with pads

So like most of you I am extra wet down there and pee when I cough, sneeze, etc. which has lead to me wearing liners and extra thin pads. Normally I am a tampon person so I am not used to pads. I don't remember ever getting this with my boys but I have something similar to a diaper rash by my butt. Is this happening to anyone else and what are you doing to help? I put Vaseline on my butt but now I feel like I have swamp ass. Help!

Re: Help...TMI with pads

  • Not sure if this helps but I buy the thong panty liners, as that is pretty much all I wear. It keeps the wetness off my bottom.
other than that, maybe some powder to help absorb the excess?

  • Maybe the pads are leaving too much moisture in you? I've never had that problem and I use he always infinity pads. They work really well for keeping you from feeling the moisture down there. Maybe it's worth trying a different brand?
  • I switched to always infinity pads when I noticed this myself. I used a & d to help with the rash. Hope that helps!
  • I'm a pad person when it's that time of the month. Me and tamons don't agree - but, the rash happens when I wear them a lot.
For the leaking I've been using poise- I started with the liner but I was leaking too much and I've switched to a thicker "bladder control" one and that seems to help. I've had no irritation.
  • I always get chemical rashes from pads. We use cloth diapers, so I've been folding a cloth wipe and laying it in my panties. It's weird, but I just can't handle the rash or the wet feeling.
  • This may not be ideal for you, but when I worked in a nursing home we obviously had lots of women who struggled with incontinence. If they didn't like wearing a brief, we could just tear the sides off and only use the bottom like a pad to place in the underwear. It was a lot more comfortable for them instead of having to wear a diaper and didn't seem to irritate the skin
  • This is why I never wear pads except postpartum.  Chemical rashes suck so bad.  If I have to use pads, I usually baby powder my crack, cheeks, crotch, and anywhere else it might touch.  Seems to help.

  • I second Always Infinity brand. Maybe you need to change the pads more frequently too until the rash goes away?
  • There may be some organic options (though I don't know if there would be thin/liner options). I can't remember if I saw a thread like this in the 3rd tri board or not, but another poster was talking about this happening post partum and switching to organic seemed to help (strangely, it was the Always brand giving her trouble)
  • I prefer organic cotton liners.. it's very dry and doesn't give me that wetness that the ones with plastic in them do.
  • I'm using a standard Kotex liner and I change it almost every time I use the bathroom. I also do not wear one at night and wear cotton underpants. Thus far I have had no issues with rashes or itching (unless you count razor burn HA!). Baby powder may help, as well as airing out your bits after a bath or shower. I use a hair dryer on my son to prevent diaper rash, I see no reason that it wouldn't help you too.

  • Thanks girls. I wasn't even thinking about the chemicals because I never wear pads. I have just been so sick and coughing all the time I was changing my underwear so much and decided to start using pads because they are easier to change.

  • I am a nurse. I am 30 years old and pregnant with baby number 2. I wear Depends every day. I suggest wearing incontinence products vs. pads. I say that because incontinence products by Depends and Tena are meant to be kept against the skin for a longer period of time. I have super sensitive skin and I wear the Depends briefs every day. I haven't had any skin issues at all.
  • I've also tried the seventh generation pads and was happy with them (there would be less chemicals in this brand too). And they're getting easier to find, our target finally started carrying them recently :)
  • I am super sensitive in that region, I realized that what I thought was moisture / pad irritation was a mild yeast infection. I got that cleared up (Monistat is prego safe, the cream) and now I sleep with no underwear to let things breathe and I haven't had issues since. I also only use always infinity pads and liners.
  • Thanks again ladies I showered before bed and slept with nothing on the last two days and wore no pads during the day. It seems to be gone. I guess I'll just do something more organic.

  • There was one pp who touched on this with the cloth wipe comment, but reusable cloth pads are becoming more and more popular. They help a lot with people who have issues and irritation with disposable liners/pads. And they come/can be made with different absorbency levels or materials.
