Velamentous Cord Insertion

So I just found out at my last scan that I have a VCI, it is an abnormal condition where the umbilical cord is not inserted in the proper location to the placenta. The exposed vessels are not protected by Wharton's jelly and are vulnerable to rupture. So obviously this is a bit scary but my doctor said it wasn't anything to worry about and is more common than I think. But using google I found some scary stuff and am probably worrying myself more than I should. I'm a FTM and 26w3d currently, worst case scenario I will have to have a c-section. So I was just wondering if anyone else out there has the same condition or has previously had it in other pregnancies and what your experience was?

  • If you don't hear a response here soon try the high risk board. They were great with my question. Best of luck. If you're worst case scenario is a section that's not all bad, I had an emergency c and recovery wasn't too bad at all. Knowing ahead of time and being able to plan would make it all that much easier.

  • Hi! I also have a VCI, Vasa previa, and partial placenta previa. Not sure if you have gotten any answers yet, but check out the International Vasa Previa Foundation. They have the gold standard when it comes to treatment. We're you only diagnosed with VCI our did they mention vasa previa as well? I am on complete pelvic rest and will be hospitalized between 30-32 weeks (I get my set date next week after our appointment) with a scheduled c-section by 35 weeks. Good luck and do not be afraid to keep after your doctors.
