Baby's routine...

How can I switch my baby's routine? She finally falls asleep for the night at 12-12:30 she wakes up a few times through the night but is usually up for the day around 12 with a nap in the afternoon. What I really want is baby to sleep at 9 I don't care if she is up at 6 am I just want alone time with DH. Is it true if I keep her awake during a nap I could overstimulate her and then she won't sleep?

Re: Baby's routine...

  • How old is your baby?

My 7 week old goes to bed at 9pm. She usually wakes between 1:30-2am and again 4:30-5am and is up by 8am for the day.

I started reading the book "baby wise" it's very helpful with this type of thing. Keeping a baby up during the day doesn't mean they will sleep better at night. It could actually make it worse. I started a routine at 5 weeks. Final "daytime" bottle at 9pm in our room ( where she sleeps currently) with just a nightlight on. I have an app called "sound sleeper" and I usually set it to thunderstorm for the night. Once she's done eating, I burp her and put her in her bassinet for the night. Since starting this routine 2 weeks ago she seems to have become consistent with wake times and gives me no troubles going down. do the same routine every night and baby should pick up on it. As far as daytime, I don't have a set routine for naps because every day is different, I may be out running errands at "naptime" and that just screws the routine all up.

Not sure if this was helpful but good luck!

  • I would slowly start to wake her earlier and earlier in the day ... Like wake her gently by unswaddling her or turning on tv 1150, then 1140 and so on. That way she will start to go to bed earlier and earlier hopefully.

For PP, that's pretty awesome at 7 weeks - my baby is doing that routine exactly at 10 weeks! Lol ..
  • I read babies in our age group should only be awake 1 hr 1hr 45 minutes between naps or they become over tired and have trouble sleeping.
  • She was 8 weeks yesterday! Thanks for the advice :)
