Registering

Any mamas started registering yet? I don't want to start too early (due 3/27!) but friends, family and coworkers are already talking about showers :)

Re: Registering

  • I did already- at 12 weeks (I'm now 19 weeks).  I wanted my DD involved and since that was really the only time we had before she went back to school (and she visits her father on weekends).

  • I'm 17 weeks and I started mine a few weeks ago. It helps me stay organized with what we need/what we have. I say go for it if you want to!
  • I like it when people register on the early side for babies/weddings. It gives me more time to shop for them and I'm one of those who like to shop early so I have lots of choices. :) I say go for it. It drives me crazy when people wait until the last minute to register. DH's friend and his bride didn't finish their registry until AFTER the bridal shower!
    It's a boy! Born 42 weeks, 2 days.

  • I'll start registering probably around Thanksgiving.  My mind still isn't convinced I'm having a child, miscarriages do that to you.

  • I don't think I'll be registering this time. It's our second, and both are boys, and we saved everything. I think starting one early is good, though. Then you can add to it online when you think of (or see) new things you'd like.

Yesssss! I have 4 babies, not including my own, and 2 weddings within 6 weeks of eachother! I'm thankful people have registered already so I can space out those purchases.
  • I had it all done within weeks... just for me though... and I keep revising

More of my list and I remove/change as I go.... no one has mentioned throwing me a shower yet though :(

  • I have a "wish list" started on Amazon but I have it private since it's really just for me. I wasn't planning/wanting a baby shower but multiple people have been talking about it so I guess I'll have to make an actual registry.

    Where do you generally register?

  • I registered at 15 weeks, 4 weeks ago. I did Babies R Us and Walmart. Plus at Babies R Us you can buy your stuff at and still get the rewards. Always good to be prepared early. I was hesitant because I am havin complications with this one and has a misscariage earlier this year. Plus I have 3 kids already. My youngest is 9 my oldest 17, middle 10. I have nothing left from them. I didn't think would have a shower but my mom and sister are so excited and insisting. Which I am greatful for.
  • Great advise ladies! I do think it would be helpful as a way to stay organized/plan for what we need. I'm thinking Target for the essentials and Pottery Barn for a few nicer things... BabiesRUs overwhelms me but I hear a lot of good things about their registry and product selection so we'll see!
  • @bntfroggie more creepy Internet hugs from me xx

I've already registered at BRU but haven't made a full registry. I actually suck at making it, I don't have a clue what to put on it.

  • Target registries as a whole are so frustrating to use as a buyer/guest/gift-giver/whatever, but I've never tried it from the other side.

I've already registered for a lot of stuff on Amazon, but as other PPs posted, it was primarily to keep myself organized and spread out the stress of deciding what to get (FTM!). I like Amazon because you can add stuff from any other website as well.
  • I started one at 14 weeks. Babies R Us gives you 10% back on whatever is purchased over $300 from your registry even if you are buying it for yourself, so I started early so I can pick up a few things with each paycheck to prepare without all at once sticker shock lol.

We registered with Target for our wedding and you're right. It can be incredibly frustrating. For days at a time it wouldn't even come up, other times it would only have half of the stuff and they change out their stuff so often that we would have half a list just saying "no longer available".
  • We won't be registering this time.  We have most everything we need besides big ticket items like a carseat.  I feel weird if other people bought a carseat, unless the grandparents INSISTED :) And my husband and I LOATHED registering the first time.  We literally received 2 things off our list- an infant football toy and a bottle brush...

With my first, I registered at Babies R Us and Target. I like giving people the option of two different stores and I had nothing but good experiences with Target's registry when I got married. (Their returns were a breeze, even when people bought triplicates of an item and not everyone included a gift receipt.) Babies R Us was also a good experience, but I think they tend to be a little overpriced personally. But as others have said, they have good perks for registering with them!

  • We just finished our registry this weekend actually. Our family is spread out all over the country and some international people too. They are all talking about wanting to get us stuff around Xmas when we see most of them. We thought we should do it now and get it done before the holiday craziness.

  • Here's a tip from a second timer.  If you make a registry on Amazon, you can add anything from anywhere you find on the internet, and it will link with prices (etsy, other sites, etc).  Pretty great for organization.
  • Finally got seriously working on my target registry today, and should have everything we want on there next weekend if we're able to find out the gender on monday! Finally had the energy to get working on it!

Love me some Etsy. Good plan.
  • Bumping this to the top with some registering questions.  STM here, just doing it for my personal tracking and completion coupon - no shower, not telling anyone about the registry.  I started Toys R Us registry online -set my due date early to get the coupon, plan to buy most everything that I don't already have/get before spring on one day - on a Thursday (10% off for card holders), during the trade in event (we really only need a swing at this point, as far as equipment, but that's 25% off) and using the competition (10%). Store manager assured me the stacking would work.   And then adding up the rewards and registry points I collect  to use down the road.  This is going to save us several hundred dollars.  Husband and I went to the store and walked down the isles making a list on his phone (he really enjoyed saying nipple cream into his phone to verbally create the list).  Obviously I think about sheets, paci's, etc. but I forgot about milk bags, butt cream, etc. so I'm glad we did this.  The price total added up to about double what I had stuck in my head to spend. I ran into trouble trying to register for our list online, because for example they carry 10 different Dreft sizes online, but I need to register for the one I'm actually going to buy in the store.  Do you think if I go into the store, scan items with the "gun," as I put them into my cart, turn the gun in, and then checked out, the competition code would work?  Do you think if I wanted to purchase items they only offered online I could also do that order that same day and use the competition? It says you can shop online/in store- but it isn't clear about doing both ordering items in store.  I ordered my travel system in store this fall and they stacked a bunch of coupons and sent it to my house for free.  Anyone see any holes in my thought process?

  • I started my registry at around 14 weeks.  But then updated it when we found out that we were having a girl.  We already have a son so I knew what to put on the registry. I registered for two places (Walmart and Babies r us)

I don't see why that would be a problem. When I ordered our dresser and crib I went in to the store to order it. They printed off in order to get for me and I took it to check out. I'm thinking you could check out with whatever items you have and the order tickets and still use your completion discount.
  • I did reach out to toys r us and they said it should all work, just plan on ordering in store and finishing my shopping in the same day. I'm trying not to buy things before then, it's hard!
  • I recently discovered that the babies r us near me accepts bed bath & beyond 20% off coupons. I can't tell you how excited that made me!
