Breech baby!

Anyone know when it causes concern if you have a breech baby?? I am 32 weeks and she is breech, this is also my second if that makes a difference! any knowledge would help... I am trying not to be so paranoid and scared. I am already doing spinning babies..

I am seeing a chiropractor and I am taking Pulsatilla. If she isn't down by 34 weeks I plan on seeing an acupuncturist... and my midwife said something about an ECV if she isnt down by 37 weeks :(

Re: Breech baby!

  • I asked my OB because little mister is sideways. He said they start getting concerned around 36 weeks if they aren't head down. You still have some time!

  • Thank you for your advice !! :)
  • Ditto what @rachrobertson said. My doctor doesn't even worry about it until 36 weeks.

  • Okay then I just need to chill out haha I should probably do some yoga to calm myself. I am such a paranoid person... -_-
  • My midwife said around 34 weeks. So there's still time! I understand your worries though. I'm a total worry wort! :)

  • My dr said they don't worry about till 36 weeks. Good luck.
  • I don't know the answer to when to be concerned, but my first baby flipped just before 38 weeks. There really still is a lot of time, and you're doing all the right things!

    What is pulsatilla??

  • With my first, she was sideways at 37 and my midwife just told me to try whatever I could on my own to get her to turn over the next week and that they would do an ultrasound to check on her the next week.  At 38 weeks, she was still sideways, they scheduled my pre-op visit for c-section and last minute ultrasound for 39 weeks.  At 39 weeks, she was head down and ready to go!  However, I ended up with a c-section anyways, because they discovered the reason she was turning was that I had way too much amniotic fluid, so she was just swimming around in there! haha

  • This baby is transverse according to the u/s I had last week. I'm having a c-section so it's really no concern what position he or she is in, but I agree with PPs that they have room to move until 36 weeks or so!

  • every time my midwife checks the position of my baby, she moves to a totally different spot. So it's still early. My midwife says depending on the amount of fluid in the uterus, she can turn a breech baby pretty late in the game. But she doesn't worry until 36 or 37 weeks.

I wouldn't worry too much. My little guy flipped regularly through my entire pregnancy. He was sideways at my last OB appointment 2 days before induction (38weeks). They checked before they started the induction and he was head down.

The more fluid you have the easier it is for them move around, I had quite a bit of amniotic fluid even at the end.
  • However, I ended up with a c-section anyways, because they discovered the reason she was turning was that I had way too much amniotic fluid, so she was just swimming around in there! haha

Agh! Now I'm worried about this. My little guy is always changing positions (31 weeks) and my doctor says he probably moves a lot because I have such a high amount fluid..., so it's like 'a swimming pool in there'. I thought I'd be okay because he's usually head down/slightly angled, but it sounds like a high degree of motility isn't good, regardless of position. I'm guessing it's because the baby is more apt to flip again during labor? Ugh.

  • Sorry, didn't meant to worry you.  Due to the high fluid level, they decided to induce me with my first.  They monitored me all through the night with a fetal monitor and she literally was constantly changing positions.  The nurse kept coming back in my room and moving the monitor to find the heartbeat again because she'd move and they wouldn't be able to hear it as well.  The next morning she had flipped completely from head down to breech, which is when they decided to do a c-section.

Try not to worry too much though.  I don't mean to put extra stress on ya!  Just sharing!  Hopefully you can have a successful, normal delivery!

I checked her heartbeat tonight and it is right above where my pubic hair starts... I hope that means she is head down now, I am 33 weeks today and I know I still have time... this just consumes my daily thoughts
  • Right above your public hair seems pretty low to me. I'm 35 weeks... almost 36 and my little guy is transverse. His head is up under my left rib cage and his feet are down in my crotch. I can feel his little head sometimes. There are times when I feel like he's going to kick through my vagina. It's painful!

When I go to find his heartbeat, it's always right between my ribs and belly button. I'm sure with the heartbeat being that low, your LO is head down. I'm trying not to worry... my midwife wants to attempt an ECV after Christmas, but I've accepted that a c section may be inevitable. I just want my little man to arrive safely!

That's where the docs always find little miss. She is on the bottom of the pancake stack with brother and her head is on my right side and feet on my left. Try not to obsess about it. With my second there was talk about him being breech late in the game but not until 36 weeks or so.
