1st Trimester

Baby names

I knows it's only the 1st trimester but we can't stop thinking about names. We have a couple girls names picked out but boys names all the ones we like our acquaintance' with the firehall have used them within the last 2 years. I was just wondering everyone's thought on this subject. How did you pick names or say no to names? Any help is appreciated

I found a baby names book at Goodwill and I went through and highlighted names I liked. There weren't many (like 20 girls names of the thousands) so I made a list on my phone and read it to DH. Whatever he didn't like, I deleted. We are very much on the same page as names so there's not a lot of disagreement as neither of us ever suggests a name that's very out there. Since we're only in first tri, I'm not help in advising you on how we will make the final decision.

I recommend keeping a list in your phone (or somewhere) any time you hear a name you like. I borrowed baby names books from my library, too. They have some copies available as digital download.
  • Girl names we dont have a problem with finding ... for the longest time i already had one that i really liked . As for boy names .. we cant seem to find a second one we like ... we found the first name from a member of one of our favourite bands ( sounds dumb i know ) and ive looked up names from different cultures on the internet .
  • When in doubt, family names are a good crowd pleaser :)  Grandfathers, uncles, husband's middle name....  :)

  • I looked through baby name books and lists online for first names that I liked, and showed them to baby's dad. He told me which ones he liked out of my list, and we chose one from the combination. I pestered him for a middle name list for what seemed like months, and we recently settled on a middle name as well! It turned out to be a name I've always loved, so I'm happy.

  • Online, books and with our first we watched the end credits of movies to get name ideas sometimes
  • I've had my list of names ever since we got engaged. We both like them so we go off of that list.
We want a lot of kids
  • I'd been thinking about names for awhile and a few weeks after my positive, my husband and I were talking about some ridiculous name someone had on the news. Eventually we both started talking about names we liked and didn't like. Every few days or so I bring up a few names I saw or heard and we talk about it.I learned I liked short names like Cora, Thea, and Mia. He likes long names that can be shortened like Elisabeth, Christina, and Addison. By the first conversation of names, we chose a boy name because nothing else we came up with  compared. So if bean is a boy, it will be Alexander James.

Girl names have been harder. I'm not very girly at all and couldn't imagine having a girl with an overly feminine name. We have a few names we like but none we both love.

I've always loved Theodora, Thea or Teddy for short. I think Coraline, Cora for short is cute too.

  • Selecting names was the EASIEST decision DH and have ever made as a couple. Weird right? He said, I like "Amy" for a girl (omg, me too!). And I like Alistair for a boy (omg DH too!). Amy Josephine or Alistair Jeffery... A.J. either way!
  • If we have a baby boy, he would have my husbands (and father in laws) name, so he would be a third. I have received criticism when I tell my girlfriends this but, I think it is very sweet. What does everyone think about passing down names from generation to generation?

  • I've always wanted to name a girl "Claire Ellen" after my grandmothers, so we're going with that. For a boy, we're down to probably "Connor James" ... Both family names for DH. He really like Liam, but I don't like the way it sounds in my voice (I have a texas drawl) and I like Owen, and he is only meh about it. We talked about it and settled on "Connor James." Also - by having two C names - We can buy cute "C" things before we find out the gender. ;)

  • We could not agree on a name for our youngest child. I really liked the name Annelise, but DH wasn't sold on it. I resorted to family names and that worked. Anne is Dh's maternal grabdmother's middle name, Elise means 'devoted to God', and I threw in Rose (Dh's paternal grandmother's middle name) as her middle. DH loved it and we have a 1 year old Annelise Rose:) We have a boy name picked out for this one and a girl middle. Family names helped tremendously.

I think it's sweet to name your baby after family members you are close to. I don't really care too much for it becoming a long standing tradition because it removes any input from the mother who may want to give the child a different name.
