Baby screams when lotion applied

My little girl is 9 weeks old. Since she was maybe a week or two she has hated getting lotion put on. She would cry and scream but was fine immediately after I was done. We figured it was a phase bc it's only her arms and chest that bothers her. She's never had an issue with soap. Well she still just screams something awful when I put on her lotion and we now think it might be that it stings her skin. Does anyone have any similar issues and what lotion do you use?

Re: Baby screams when lotion applied

  • I use Aveeno and haven't had an issue. Do you warm it up in your hands first? My only guess was it could feel cold. If it's not that maybe try a different brand.

  • If you think the lotion stings try coconut oil. It doesn't sting the driest of skin, smells fantastic and does wonders for moisturizing.

  • My peditrician said not to use anything but coconut oil... Until we found out she was allergic to tree nuts. So maybe give that a try.
  • I use coconut oil :) she loves her after bath baby massage :P
  • I'll have to try coconut oil. Yeah, I warm it up and I start with her legs and she'll be all smiles. As soon as I start doing her arms she freaks out. It doesn't matter if it's on her changing table or in the warm bathroom after her bath, same result. I guess I should also say that her dad doesn't have skin issues but I have psoriasis. I've checked her and she doesn't have any bumps or irritation but I'm betting she's going to have psoriasis too. I'll just have to get a few different things to try and see which one she likes best.
  • We use Lubriderm on our 2 year old as well as LO. Their pediatrician recommended it and said to avoid the scented baby lotions. Might be worth a try if it's not one you've already used. Good luck!!
