Fell in the shower

I took the weirdest fall in the shower this morning- somehow managed to slip and basically dive out of the shower.  My thighs landed hard on the bathtub ledge and I think took most of the impact (my head hit the bathroom door).  My belly slid along the bathtub edge as I kind of retreated backwards, but nothing slammed into it directly.

Based on various accidents I had during my first pregnancy, I know I usually get paranoid about these things and they wind up being non-issues but I could just use some reassurance.  The fetus wouldn't be hurt simply because of a harsh impact to a different part of my body, right?  I know I probably sound crazy... I'm getting worried about every twinge and ache now even though they are pretty much the same twinges and aches I always have (and my stupid back just seems to ache whenever I have any kind of physical strain).

Thanks all... and to those of you who don't feel much like showering these days, showers are dangerous!  Stay away!  :)

Re: Fell in the shower

  • Uffda, that doesn't sound like a fun way to start the morning! Sorry that happened. I would say as long as there wasn't a blunt force hit to your belly, you are probably ok. Baby is well protected in there, and hurting another part of your body shouldn't anything. I can imagine it shook you up a bit though. Be careful in the shower from now on lady ;)

  • Don't fret. Sounds like the impact was felt on other areas of your body. I read that you'd have to be seriously injured before really worrying that the baby might be hurt. Still it's super scary! Buy one of those non-slippy mats maybe? Hope not too many more aches and pains!
  • Thanks ladies.  I was extra clumsy in my first pregnancy too, I think.  I know none of us are medical specialists on here (that I know of) but it helps to have some reassurance.  My gut tells me I'm fine and need to chill, but of course my crazy hormones are making me paranoid about everything I could possibly worry about.

Owwwch! Poor you....I saw this on the catch up and when you posted "my DH asked, did you break anything? " I thought he meant the shower! I thought he was being so mean until I worked out he meant bones!
I read about a lady on baby center who was heavily pregnant and took a full tumble down a flight of stairs and her baby came out with just a bit of a bruise on its back. They are tough cookies these babies. Im sure yours is tucked up safe. Hope you feel better soon.

Honestly, I do think your baby is fine! When is your next OB appointment?

I've been hit twice while pregnant, once that totaled my car, and all was fine. I've fallen on my butt, and baby was fine. And I've hit my stomach so hard against a piece of furtnifure AND a fence latch that I got a large bruises over my belly, and baby was fine. I'm obviously clumsy, but babies are well protected. Try to be careful, but when that doesn't work, know that babies are very well cushioned in there. Having said that, I do hope to have no incidents this pregnancy!
  • Ouch!!  It sounds like the impact was on other parts of your body so I'm sure there will no issues.  Still try to rest and relax this weekend and take care of yourself.  You have an excuse not to rest on the sofa all weekend.  :)

I am super clumsy all the time but it does seem to be worse during pregnancy.

  • I'm so sorry to hear! I had a fall when I was 6 or 7 weeks and even though I didn't really fall on my stomach, I was terrified. Knock on wood, things are fine. I'm sure things will be with your LO too!

Ouch! Sorry you took such a rough tumble. Your description makes it sounds like you should be fine aside from your non-threatening ouch spots, but you may want to call the OB just to reassure yourself and so that they know. They won't think twice about getting a call after that. I hope your bumps and bruises aren't too bad!!
  • @june2016baby next appointment is Wednesday.  I honestly do feel totally normal now that the day has moved on... no signs of any issue- my leg hurts somewhat but that's to be expected.  I'll mention it to my OB just as an FYI but even paranoid me feels much better now.  Bad way to start the day but it could have been a lot worse. I'm actually glad I kind of dove out of the tub since it spared any tummy landings.
  • It doesn't sounds like anything that would hurt baby but gosh, is your head okay???  That must have hurt really bad.  I'm so sorry that happened to you!

  • I know it's late now, but I would give the OB a call in the morning. You are most likely fine but they can be the judge of whether they find it concerning or not. My OB for both pregnancies has always told me any fall always warrants at the very least a phone call. Hope you are ok!
  • Ouch! Sorry to hear this. I fell down the stairs (about 8 stairs) the other day. I was scared too. My butt and arm still hurts but I think the babe is ok. It is really scary though isn't it!?
