Nanny situation

Hi ladies,

For those that have one, what is your nanny situation? Ie.

How much do you pay them? (Salaried or hourly?)
What perks/bonus if any do you give them?
What vacation days/holidays do you give them?
Has anyone tried to steal your nanny? Do you have any retention packages?
Legal employment/healthcare or under the table?

Thank you! Trying to sort out my child care situation and need some help!

Also if you can tell me what part of the country, that would help as well.

    We've got a wonderful nanny 3x week. 1.$20/hr, which is above market for where we are but got us the best nanny out there. 2. Monthly metro card, spending $ for incidentals (not really a perk, but still) 3. One week of her choosing, one week of our choosing, paid. Plus paid court holidays, as I'm a lawyer. She really does get a lot of paid time off, since we sometimes take Fridays or Mondays too for long weekends. 4. They better not!! I don't know what we'll do if that happens. I might fight the other mom. 5. We pay her on the books. I'd recommend using a service for that. Depending on your state, the paperwork (fed and state) can be really onerous. If you pay off the books, just know you can't run for public office. People get busted for that as it's illegal.

    I worked as a nanny for a year two years ago... So I'll share from the other side. The family had an 18 month old and newborn twins. I started before the twins were born (when mom went on bearers) and worked until just after they turned 1. Mom worked part time from home, but I worked full time. Live in suburban Midwest.
    I was paid $14 per hour
    The best perk was breakfast, lunch, and snacks included. I made breakfast and lunch for the family. This was a huge benefit to me because they ate healthy, organic food that I couldn't afford at the time but I loved to eat that way. I also got quite a few half days when grandma decided to come over or when dad came home early. I'd say 1-2 days per week I got done early.
    I was off all bank holidays since the dad worked at a bank.
    No, nobody tried to steal me, but in a previous position it happened! When I was in college I did after school care. Over the summer, the kids attended camp so the hours were the same. I told the family I wanted to find something with more hours. Well, a friend over theirs offered 20 hours per week, so I planned to be with them. The original family was so upset and cut back the kids days at camp so I would stay with them. Oh the drama!
    Under the table. We knew it was only going to be for about a year since she planned to do daycare once they were a year.

    30k salaried but she still gets OT for anything above 40 hrs, which happens pretty regularly when I'm working. This is above market for where we are (Cleveland) Bonus at Christmas: we've been doing $100 for each year she has been with us ($300 for this, her third year). Perks: use of car and travel (I bring her with me when I travel for work. I would necessarily consider it a perk, but she does as she never really traveled before). She has 10 vacation days a year, plus paid court holidays (I'm also a lawyer) We poached her by just paying above market. I think our package + the extended time with our DD1 is enough to keep her We do legal employment. She has two children so she qualifies for the EITC, and we want to make sure she gets that, since it's a couple thousand dollars each year. Also better to avoid getting sued/pay disputes. We use Breedlove (through care.com). It is very easy, takes care of taxes, provides pay stubs, and we set up for auto withdrawals from us and direct deposit for her. Highly recommended. It makes everything really easy.

    Thank you ladies! This has been so helpful. We offered our package to our number one choice. We find out if she accepts this afternoon!

    We offered: 24k a year, 1k bonus plus a variable bonus (based on our perf), 10 paid vacation, plus standard holidays (new years, Xmas, good fri, Fourth of July, memorial, labor). The hours are 7-4 but are flexible with the schedule set mutually every week.
