Torn Placenta and bed rest

We had a major scare last night and ended up in the emergency room. The ER doctor said it was a ruptured blood vessel that caused a hemorrhage and baby seemed okay but it was classified as a "threatened miscarriage"..... we got in to see our regular baby doctor this morning and he said it wasn't a blood vessel but rather a tear in the placenta.... did another ultrasound and the baby's heartbeat is still strong. He's still moving around and kicking his feet... actually looked like he was trying to suck his thumb. So baby is okay... I'm okay... doc said 80% chance that everything will continue to progress normally. But due to the tear and my blood pressure I am on complete bed rest until my next pre natal appointment in January.... it was a terrifying experience.

    Oh my!! I had a subchorionic hematoma with DS#1 it was so scary and happened the day we announced to our families. But he's a 3.5yr old ball of trouble now :)

    I'm so sorry...and yes, that must have been so scary.  Glad to hear there's a really good chance all will be well.  Rest up and keep us updated.

    Oh no, that sounds terrifying. And difficult--being stuck on bed rest through the holidays. We are 100% here to keep you entertained with cool threads and listen when you are scared or just grumpy. Hope everything heals well and looks great in January. Hope you are getting lots of love and care from your partner and family. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Oh my that's so scary!! A friend of mine has that happen twice with two of her pregnancies and she went on and had a healthy pregnancy. Hang in there! Get some good books or get some good Christmas movies and rest!

    Oh my gosh!  How scary that must have been.  Bedrest sounds like it's the best thing but horrible timing with Christmas.  I hope the tear heals itself and everything will proceed as normal.

    @haysallen I know exactly how you feel. I'm usually on the May 2016 thread as my due date is end of May (but I specifically went looking for a tear in placenta thread). I'm going through the same thing and on bed rest.

    Tear in my placenta... Baby has been perfect through the whole thing! They have been monitoring me with ultrasounds every week to two weeks. The first time I bled was before thanksgiving. Then nothing until last week (lost maybe a pint to two pints of blood in a matter of minutes). Super scary and intense.

    Have the doctors told you anything? Ours keep saying, "we don't know why it happens" and all we can do it monitor you closely.

    Thank you everyone! It's very nice feeling the support! I am doing okay.... already getting bored with bedrest but so thankful that our little bit is okay.... for those of you asking what causes tears... I never really got an answer. I was just told it just happens sometimes. But physically baby and I are doing alright. Emotionally I'm still a bit shaken up... my husband had to return to work today and I cried and begged him to stay home even though I knew he couldn't.... I think I'm terrified something else will happen. Have to remind myself to stay positive! Anyways thank you all so much for the encouragement and support...it really means a lot!!!
