Who has experience with a gender/sex ultrasound studio?

I am excited to find out if we are having a boy or girl and kinda falling for the idea of going to one of those cutesy ultrasound "studios" to find out the sex at 16 weeks. (It would be fun to tell our families for Christmas). Their website says they can tell with "high accuracy" what the baby is starting at 15 weeks. Does anyone have experience with this? Would you recommend? I've never done this before and I'm a little "iffy" on whether or not to trust the results. A friend did this and they told her boy---- then she had a girl. Haha! (Different studio though). My other two babies I found out their sexes at 19 and then 20 weeks.

  • I have no experience as a FTM but there was a thread a while back that might have some helpful comments about guarantees, etc.

  • Oh oops! I did do a search first to try to find if anyone had already asked this. Sorry everyone if this is an accidental repeat.
  • That link did not pop up in the search! Thanks for letting me know. Is there a way to delete my post?
  • I went to one with my last pregnancy at 17 weeks and I was so glad I did because I learned the sex and saw him move and heard his heartbeat, and a week later we lost him. It was the last time I saw him move or hear his heartbeat.

Obviously not everyone's gonna have this experience, (THANK GOODNESS,) but I was so glad we went.

  • @Boonhilde so so sorry for your loss. What a precious memory you have with him. Thanks for sharing your special moment with your son with me!

No big deal! There's no way to totally delete the thread, just let it fall from the front page on its own.
  • Hey! I went to one last pregnancy RIGHT after my 20 week ultrasound. I found out I was having a girl, and just wanted 3D confirmation before decorating the nursery. (My 20 week ultrasound tech was kinda young, and I just wasn't confident enough that she was correct.) The 3D was awesome though, and gave a clear enough picture that I felt sure about the gender.

You have two boys and would love a third, right? All evidence that I know of points to being able to find out at 16 weeks. Good-luck!
  • I did it with my first but not until 19 weeks. I went the day after my anatomy scan because I was pissed they couldn't tell (my daughter to this day is not the most cooperative or chill little person). It was a really nice experience, very different than the medical appointment ultrasounds. She showed a lot of different angles, took lots of pics, and told us cute little details about how she looked ("delicate, feminine features" didn't show up on any of my other US reports, haha). I did find it interesting though that she said it was actually a lot easier to determine sex in 2D, and while she showed me the 3D for photos and my own interest, she switched to 2D to get a good look at what was goin' on downstairs.
  • My OB offers them. We're having ours done after my 16wk appt. I would have liked to wait until the a/s but DH deploys before then and I don't want him to miss out.

  • I have a ultrasound everytime we go in. They do a gender check at 15 weeks!! Mine is in a week :) and the big ultrasound at 20-21 weeks :)
  • I have not had experience with this, but my best friend went at 14 weeks and they were able to tell her the gender with no issues.  I do not plan to go until 16 weeks.
