My first post!

So I've commented a few times but this is my first time starting a post.
Had my midwife appointment today, and I'm a little bummed they couldn't find the heartbeat. They got it two weeks ago, and my midwife said she definitely wasn't concerned she couldn't get it this time, as it can be tricky at 12 weeks. I have an ultrasound booked for Monday anyway so I just have to wait til then. I've been much more nervous this time compared to my first pregnancy because I had a small amount of spotting at 6w.
I also have insomnia. She told me that it could be related to low iron, so I need to focus on iron rich foods. She also said no eating or drinking 3 hours before bed... But that seems soooo hard!! Oh isn't pregnancy a joy!

Re: My first post!

  • Baby's probably just fine! Try not to worry! And at least you have an upcoming u/s to look forward to!

  • So hard not to worry :( but on the bright side the extra ultrasound will be fun!

Interesting tip about the iron. The insomnia is killing me too!
  • Sending prayers! But I'm certain your little one is fine :)

  • Hey! Welcome.

Quick question, to anyone reading this. I understand no drinking close to bedtime, but I'm not sure about the eating. Has anyone tried this and slept better?
  • I agree with PPs--if your midwife isn't worried, then try not to worry (even though I know that's so hard to do)!

Insomnia is getting to me, too. Interesting recommendations--hope they work for you!
  • I tried not eating last night, but did have a drink... Didn't help. I started to wonder though, I started taking my prenatals right before bed a few weeks ago when the nausea was bad - wondering if that could affect it? Going to try moving them up in the evening to see if it helps.
  • I had that earlier this week. Dr ordered an ultrasound and baby was fine. Ultrasound tech laughed and said the problem was my baby would not be still at all!!! We actually watched little one flipping all over! So your baby just may be really active too!!
  • I was taking my prenatal a before bed and waking up every night at 3:40. Finally started taking them with lunch last Friday and have been sleeping through since! I can't believe I didn't think of that sooner.
  • I am 14 weeks and 3 days and having the opposite...I can't stay awake! I thought the fatigue would pass with the first trimester being over but it hasn't.

As far as baby's heartbeat, I agree with @ladybugmomma8, it could just be the baby moving around so much she can't catch it. My doctor had a really hard time finding the heartbeat at my appointment yesterday and it was for the same reason.

I'm waking up every night around 3! I tried moving my prenatal today, hoping it'll work.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance. I know everything is likely fine, and I trust my midwife completely. I had just got my hopes up that I'd hear it and be reassured. Just a little disappointing. But, I don't have long to wait for my ultrasound, I'll get to see little bean soon!
