2nd Trimester

Heart Palpitations/Racing Heart?

Anyone else experience this?
It started yesterday when i had a little more caffeine than i normally do in the morning( still less than the 200mg limit) and the weird feeling actually kept me awake a lot last night.

Googling has resulted with me finding articles that say it's normal and others that say "immediately call your health provider"

Also, I am stupid because I just had my first meeting with my OB this morning and I totally forgot to ask her!  I did finally get to hear the heartbeat though! (i've had several ultra sounds as this is an IVF baby, but no one had hooked up the doppler thingy).  At least the little one has a normal heartbeat

Re: Heart Palpitations/Racing Heart?

  • every now & then my heart feels almost like it skips a beat or it starts beating too fast & i have to take a seat.
from what i know, it's pretty common. your heart is working twice as hard to pump blood not only for you, but for your LO as well. if it becomes really concerning though, I would get checked out.

  • it is common and it can be nothing, but only a dr can tell you, if your symptoms are nothing to worry about.

I get heart palpitations a lot. One time it lead my dr to check my thyroid, which turned out to be grave's disease and needed medication. He has done an ecg on me and is comfortable that my current palpitations are anxiety induced and nothing serious.

  • I get it alot just sit down with your back straight and feet planted on the floor take deep breathes. After a few minutes you don't notice a difference then you should call. Also drinking some water and eating a few crackers can help if its just the coffee jitters. You should notify your doctor that your experiencing it.

  • I had this happening a lot accompanied by faintness and dizzy spells. Had my iron levels checked and they were pretty low. Might be something to talk to your health care provider about, or just increase iron rich foods in your diet and see if it helps.
  • I agree that most heart palpitations are not much for concern but if they happen frequently let your OB know so he can evaluate and see if further testing is needed.
  • I was having a lot of trouble with palpitations, as well as rapid and pounding heart. My nurse told me to increase my protein intake, and make sure I get plenty of water. I started eating Greek yogurt at night (when I was experiencing the most discomfort), which has 11-14 grams of protein per serving and very little sugar. Wow! I started feeling better.
Also, anxiety and worrying makes everything a billion times worse. Googling everything makes that anxiety even harder to deal with. My mom told me to stop looking things up online. I did, for the most part. Your own mind can make things so much scarier.
Anyway, my dear, I hope you feel better.
