5 cm dilated not in active labor..help!

hello ladies I was wondering if anyone has had the same experience as me..I*m 38 w and 4 days and I went to the drs on Monday and my dr said I'm dilated to a 5 and she said she could easily break my water but won't because I'm not past 39 weeks (which is ok) later that day I started having inconsistent contractions and slowly they went away. So i'm confused because I thought I would be in labor by now (and so did my OB!!) but i'm not! has this happened to anyone? How long did it take to go into active labor? thanks so much I'm wanting this baby to come SO bad

    Yes! With my last baby and this one. With my last I was 5 & fully thinned at 39 w, 2 d with my "waters bulging". Dr. stripped my membranes and my water broke 24 hrs later. This time at 38 w, 5 d I was in the same situation. After I left my appt around 11:30 I started having contractions 5-10 minutes apart. I ended up at the hospital a little after 3:00 and sweet baby was here at 7:05. Easiest labor I've ever had with 4 pushes. Good luck and hang in there. It's just a mental game now.

    I*ve done everything possible minus castor oil. fresh pineapples, clove +cinnamon tea, bouncing on the ball, squats, dancing and just went on a 3.5 mile walk (I exercised a lot during my pregnancy) and still nothing and oh ya sex too!! thanks for the feedback. I think i'm so bummed out because I was thinking by this time I would have already delivered and started my new life with my son but NOPE!

    There's prob no chance of this being the same for you but I went at 37 weeks and was 3cm 60% effaced. 38 weeks 4cm 75% effaced and he scheduled to break my water this past Monday 12.7 and I cancelled and went in for an appointment Tuesday and asked him to sweep membranes and when he tried to get in he couldn't because he said my cervix was too far back. He said what he had previously felt wasn't right and I actually was only 2cm and 50% effaced and he couldn't get into my cervix to sweep membranes because it was too posterior. Wednesday night at 1045 I went into active labor and my water broke with the first contraction. I wish I hadn't known anything lol

    I was induced and dilated from 0-10 very fast. Then hit 10, pushed for awhile and the contractions stopped. For a long time. I was told to sleep while I waited. Bizarre and terrifying. But I got the idea that the unexpected is normal. I realize my experience doesn't address your question directly but it is meant to illustrate just how weird and unexpected things get.
