Planned parenthood.

Looking for some advice. I am a STM 6w 5d with no insurance(it doesn't kick in till Jan 1st) I was told about getting an ultra sound from planned parenthood with no insurance but at a low fee. Has anyone used or heard good or bad things about this?
This is probably a stupid question but I just want everything to go well and am obviously nervous.

Re: Planned parenthood.

  • I went to pregnancy assistant centers with my first two until my medicaid went through. They are awesome...usually christian based places that give you lots of goodies! I don't know anything about Planned Parenthood but look up Pregnancy Assistant Centers in your area.

  • Call them up. At the very least they can point you in the right direction. When I had no insurance I used them all the time for everything GYN related.

  • Thank you very much.
  • I've never had an ultrasound at PP but I have been there many times in my life and have never had anything but positive experiences.
  • I actually inquired with them for an ultrasound, but was told they only offer ultrasounds if you're having an abortion. That could be unique to the specific PP where I live...?
  • I went to planned parenthood when I got my BFP and they were horrible lol maybe it was just mine but I left so confused they wouldn't give me a u\s and I didn't have insurance. My pregnancy was unplanned and I honestly was terrified. My friend found me a clinic called obria medical clinic formally known as birth center. Not sure if its just a California place but omg I loved them and I was so sad when I had to go to a different doctor. The second I walked in their door I felt welcome and they remembered me every time I went back. Theyset me up with free baby clothes and diapers, wipes, washcloths and blankets.... And best of all they helped me get set up with medical for insurance. They took a million lbs of stress off my shoulders and I felt like not only did I have a great team of nurses and NPs but I feel like Itheynwere friends which was amazing. It was the first time I felt like I was able to be happy about my pregnancy. If I could have stayed with them through I the entire pregnancy I would! Best of luck to you! Hope u find ur happy place;)
  • While this is my first pregnancy and I'm using a birthing center, I used Planned Parenthood many times for paps, birth control pills, and plan B when I was just out of college and no longer covered by my parent's insurance but my job was with a small agency that offered no health insurance. I would definitely recommend calling. I found Planned Parenthood extremely helpful and an awesome resource during that transitional time, and I have no idea what I would have done otherwise. Birthing centers are another option- the one I'm using offers care to uninsured families and has a payment plan that they set up with reduced rates for out-of-pocket patients. Perhaps you could call and tell them your situation and see what they say. I know birthing centers and midwives are generally much cheaper than hospitals and OBs. Good luck!
  • Yes, you can get prenatal care at Planned Parenthood. They will use a sliding scale to determine cost of services.
