Ideas on how to tell family the gender

Hi Everyone! We are finding out the gender this Saturday but no one knows we are able to go early so we want to reveal the gender to our families on Christmas. Does anyone have any cute ideas on how to tell them? I thought about wrapping a cute Christmas ornament up with the gender and letting our parents open in on Christmas Day. Something like this:  https://www.etsy.com/listing/215209124/custom-glitter-ornament-christmas-were . Any thoughts? Or open to other ideas?

  • I saw someone post about wrapping a onesie in the correct color up and opening it. they also surprise themselves and had the nurse put it in an enevlope as well. <- I hope that makes sense lol my brain is not functioning.

I thought about doing that but then I would have to get someone to look at the gender and wrap the onesie up. It would be cool to find out at the same time as them though.

Could you do it at a department type store or baby store and have them wrap the onesie?

  • I'm lurking from July 2016...but I have thought about this a lot as well! I want to do a small reveal with my close family, but I also want to find out with them and all be surprised together. So I am going to make two cards, one blue that says It's a BOY, and one pink that says It's a GIRL. I'm going to put them both in the envelope and have the ultrasound tech throw away the one that it isn't. We'll take the envelope home and 1-2-3 we'll pull the card out and all have a dance party and be excited! :)

  • We found out on Friday since we had the panorama test done. We called up my immediate family & told them we knew so if they wanted to find out, we were getting together for pizza at my aunt/uncle's house at 730. Everyone went. We had them all sit on the couch and, at the count of 3, we sprayed them all with pink silly string!!!! Fun & affordable! Everyone was so excited & shocked bc they thought we were going to have a boy! I wouldn't have done it any other way
  • You could wrap up a big box filled with balloons like a Christmas present and do it that way. That's what we're thinking of doing and not even explaining what's happening (although I'm sure they'll get it right away) and just giving it to our parents as their gift. They don't know we're finding out early either.

That's a good idea. I thought about us being surprised with them but I don't know if I can wait that long lol I'm impatient

I considered the same thing, but I don't think I can hold out that long even though Christmas is literally only 3 days after our appointment. Ha! I think it'll be fun to have a little secret for a few days since we didn't keep this pregnancy a secret at all from the get go.
  • I'll just tell ya what I plan on doing:

I'm going to make a batch of pink and blue cupcakes and tell everyone to pick the color they think the baby will be, but inside one of the cupcakes I will have a tiny baby figurine (like one you would find in a King cake).  And whoever gets the cupcake with the baby in it wins a prize.

The tricky part will be making just enough cupcakes so that there is one for everyone with none left over.

Let us know what you end up deciding to do this Saturday!

  • I always like the dessert ideas. We are thinking of doing something similar as well but won't be finding out till end of January.
  • These are all fun ideas!! We ordered these adorable handmade felt ornaments on easy (one for each parent set) and are gifting it to them from their grandson to reveal the sex.
  • It looks like this is your first, but I had ideas today on how to tell my husband.  I am going to make my daughter a onesie.  If it's a boy it'll say, "BOY, I'm excited to be a big sister!" and if it's a girl, "Hey GIRL Hey" (or "Hey GIRL" with a picture of Ryan Gosling).  He'll get a kick out of it.  :)

  • A friend of mine for hers baked cupcakes that were stuffed with blue icing, then had a party and when people bit into their cupcakes they learned that she was having a boy. I thought that was cute!

We announced with Christmas cards for our first, here are the pics we used:

  • @ahernandez16 This is exactly what we had planned as well!! Our family knows that I already found out gender, and I told them it would be one of their christmas presents, they just don't know exactly how. I figured it would be easy and festive and it would make for some pretty entertaining pictures with balloons flying everywhere.
  • I'm thinking of making a blue or pink cake, frosting it as a regular xmas cake and then seeing how long it takes my family to notice/ask why i made the cake blue or pink.

  • I'll let you know what we decide. I love the baking ideas but we are traveling 8 hours to my in laws house the 19th and staying there a few days then going to my parents house and visiting them a few days lol so I would have to secretly bake the cupcakes or cake somehow unless maybe I ordered them from local bakery? That's why I was leaning towards some sort of gender revealing gift that way I can wrap it before we go.

  • For ours, we are going to have the u/s tech put the correct doll in a box (I got these cute cabbage patch dolls) and have DS1 open it on Christmas Day for us to find out (just me, DH, DS1 and DS2).

I don't know if you have any children that will be there during your reveal, but our plan for family is - later in the day when my parents, sister and nieces and nephew come over, I am going to have the kids go in the middle of the room and give them each a balloon (I guess black or gold?) that is filled with pink or blue confetti, depending on what we find out earlier in the day, and tell them to try to pop them! Adults will be told to sit and watch and wait for one to pop. I think it will be pretty funny to watch because their ages are 12 (niece), 4 (niece), 3 (DS1), 2 (nephew) and 1 (DS2), so it will mostly be a disaster except for my 12 year old niece, who may or may not want to participate. I guess the trick will be telling my 3 year old, who will already know what the baby is, not to spill the beans before we do the balloon popping!

  • We are bringing dessert to Christmas eve dinner so we decided to do ice cream cupcakes from cold stone. My husband's idea was to just do vanilla ice cream in all of them and just 1 special one (that I'll try to give to my SIL or MIL) will have either strawberry (pink) or cotton candy (blue) ice cream inside.
