GTKY HOLIDAY GIFTS!

So who's done their Christmas/Holiday shopping?  Who's done wrapping?  Tell me the gift you're most excited for your child/children to open, and the gift you're most excited for your SO to open!  I'd love to get some more good gift ideas from this thread.

  • I'll go first:

I got my 3yo DS a Big Hero bicycle with training wheels among other things, but the bike was my big ticket item so I hope he'll be super pumped about it.

As for my poor DH, all the gifts I've gotten him so far are pretty lame, so I'm hoping to copy someone else's gift idea...

And, so far I've only wrapped a grand total of two gifts; I just need to find the energy to get it all done over the course of DS's preschool hours :-/

  • I'm no where close to being done. I'm the weirdo who is usually done by Halloween but not this year. I haven't wrapped a thing. I am most excited about my son opening his very first cell phone. I am completely lost on SO. I have nothing and no ideas. He got me a dog, which we already got because she's adopted.

  • Got both kids some great books and some clothes that they needed. My 4 year old is getting some new science kits and a lunch box for school, and my 1 and a half year old is getting stickers and a giant teddy bear. I'm excited for them to open a gift I made them, it's a dress up box filled with fun costume and pretend pieces that they can play with together. I think (and hope) they will love it.

My husband I got a new water bottle, some belts and some file organizers (all lame but he needs them). I'm debating if I want to get him either a massage certificate, movie tickets, or a gift card to buy a new suit as his big gift. I'm leaning toward the massage.

My brothers and their families are just getting some baked goods and one small family gift from me this year. I got my dad a travel mug that looks like a camera lense (he ised to be a sport photographer and journalist) and my mom a book of math and logic problems (she's a college math teacher).

  • I'm ALMOST done with all of my shopping. All I have left to get is stocking stuff and a few other small things. We got DD her first doll house, so I think I'm most excited for her to open that one. I got DH a hammock with a metal stand so he can put it on our back porch and I can't wait for him to see it. It's also the only thing I've gotten him so far and I probably won't get him much else except maybe some SD cards for game cameras or maybe some new socks or shirts.

  • I'm mostly done but no wrapping done yet.

DS (2 years) is getting play food and dishes for his kitchen.  He's going to love it!

H is getting a new watch but he picked it out.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

  • I have a good chunk done, but have some work to do!!

My DH bought an electronics drum set... So that's his gift. I did buy him some work gloves for his stocking. Haha. And a new Contigo mug (24oz).

I bought my DS a hug me Elmo or something. He is obsessed with Elmo, and hope he loves this toy too!!

I am about 75% done shopping and 10% done wrapping.

  • I am about 80% done with my shopping - thanks to online shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday! I plan on wrapping gifts and making all of my gift baskets next weekend.

No kiddos yet, but for DH I'm most excited for him to open the ice fishing gear I got him. We live in MN and DH is a die hard ice-fisherman. He has been wanting a Vexilar fish finder for YEARS (they cost a pretty penny, and I've been hoarding all of my extra pennies this year to get him one). He has no idea and he will be over the moon excited to show all of his buddies and outfish everyone :)
  • Ok, I was panicking before but now I'm really starting to panic.

I have done no shopping, none, zero, nada, zilch.  Between our trip to India followed immediately by Thanksgiving followed immediately by a work trip to Arizona followed immediately by our giant dog getting TPLO surgery (essentially a kind of knee replacement) for which we are picking him up in one hour, I have had no time to even think about what people want for Christmas.

I have a feeling my family (mom, sister, BIL, sister's two kids and H) will be getting gift cards this year...and that makes me sad.   The best I can think of right now is a camera for my mom or a gift card for closet organization, crafty items for my niece (she's 10...any ideas?), a Home Depot gift card for my BIL, a Lane Bryant gift card for my sister and cash for my nephew or star wars stuff (he's 15...again, any ideas?).  I have no idea for H.  He buys everything he wants and needs and doesn't want us to spend a lot of money.

I'm done! I think.... (Damn pregnancy brain)

DH has been talking non-stop about wanting to start woodworking, so I got him a great starter book and the best rated woodworkers apron. I'll let him pick out a beginner tool set to go with it. Super excited to see him open it!!! :)
  • I'm almost done my shopping and what I do have so far has been wrapped! I'm trying to stay ahead of it this year so I can enjoy it and not feel so stressed last minute :)

Im not sure which gift I'm more excited about for DD...her leap pad or her sparkly pink hunter boots. I can't even deal with the cuteness of the boots!!

And thanks to Black Friday I was able to get a great deal on some Beats wireless earbuds for DH. I'm hoping he loves them for the gym!
  • Oooh I am 0% done. This thread is scary! Amazon prime to the rescue :flushed:

Actually all I have purchased is a ride on toy thingy for dd and the frozen fever dresses when they were b1g1 free at party city. Most everyone besides dd will ask for gift cards, which annoys the shit out of me. No one will even give you an idea of something other than a gift card. So I'm guessing the rest of it won't be that difficult. I'm also getting dd the kids fire tablet so I am super pumped about that.
  • @mkemommy  I'm in the exact same boat.  Haven't started and don't have any idea what I'm getting anyone other than my niece.  She wants a Winnie the Pooh pillow pet.  She's 14 but obsessed with all things Pooh.  It's so cute and my favorite so I'm excited.  Everyone else...not.a.clue!

  • The gifts I am most excited to give are for my DH. For a few years now, we haven't done the traditional gift exchange, but instead have decided together on something we'd like for our home, or an experience to share together.  But this year I had a great idea, so I'm gonna be sneaky. There's some backstory to this...so, about 3 years ago while we were living in TX, in a cute little duplex we were renting. We loved it. Sadly, we had a devastating electrical fire in the wee hours one morning and lost almost everything. Everyone got out okay (and I was 6 weeks away from delivering our DD, I might add) and we had renter's insurance, so we were able to get what we needed, and we quickly found a new place and all, but one of the things we still lament is the loss of all our family Christmas ornaments...ones from our childhoods, ones we had chosen together...everything.  This year, I'm making us a few new ornaments that chronicle some of our more recent history. "Building back up the sentimentality supply," I guess.  They are going to be homemade and kinda cheesy and they will each be about a private joke or something in our history together.  I know he's gonna love them.

That is so sad and so sweet.  I'm glad you all got out okay!  Do you lose all your baby items too?  That must have been so stressful!!

  • I guess I'm in the about 80% done category. We have our parents left to shop for, and I need a few more little thing's for DH. Everything we have bought so far is wrapped, but about 4-5 gifts still need their bows before they can go under the tree.

This is silly, but this year I'm most excited for our dogs gift(no, children yet so they are our babies). We have three fairly large dogs and they are all OBSESSED with water bottles, so between us and our inlaws we have managed to save a massive amount of bottles that we are going to dump in our baby gated hallway on Christmas for them to go bananas over. I got the idea from YouTube. I hope our outcome is as funny as it has been for others.

  • No where close to done... i barely started really.

This is our first- so at least our list is small but still.  I got DH a few Star Wars things this year when Zulily was having a sale.  I got a set of Star Wars golden books for DH and am gifting from the bean.  I got a keychain lightsaber from the cats (it looks a lot like the laser pointer they love to play with).  i need to find a real gift to give him- but its tough this year.  Loving this thread for the extra ideas.  If anyone has any ideas for fathers/father in laws too that would be great!

  • @winniethepoohspants we lucked out with baby stuff, because the room we had planned on using for the baby was in the central-most part of the duplex, and all the baby stuff was in there (and much of it still in packaging).  The firefighters actually piled the stuff into the center of the room and threw a tarp over it.  The ceiling caved in in pretty much every other room of the house and attic/ceiling insulation, soot, and water covered everything...but the stuff in DD's room just sustained smoke damage, a lot of which was salvageable.  It was stressful at the time, of course, but so many people stepped in to help us, and we were able to get back on our feet really quickly.  Now we joke about it...like "Hey, you know a really good way to de-clutter? Have a house fire!" It was one of the things that really solidified for me the knowledge that DH and I can get through anything as long as we have each other, and our senses of humor.

  • Christmas shopping stresses me out, and I seriously can't set foot in a store with my 2 year old DS without some sort of meltdown or tantrum right now. Lots of online shopping going on!

I got DH an Xbox One and new game since his old one broke, and he's not the type to really spend much money on himself during the year. Our big gift for DS is a battery powered truck that just happened to be marked down from $400 to $150 at toys r us (score!), and some superhero stuff because he's obsessed and just wants Santa to bring him a "big hulk." Now I just need to finish everyone else, ugh.
  • Im done shopping and mostly done wrapping. If there is anything in the world i am organized about (its not much.) its xmas gifts! I love finding them and giving them!

I have a whole plan in which i scope out things from more specialty sites in mid-November. so i am prepped with what i want to order come black friday weekend sales. I also copy and paste things off the sites and search them on amazon to find them cheaper andusually have about a 50% success rate. When it comes down to whats left, i pretty much just go to sites that are having the best sales like Old Navy had a huge awesome sale and buy from those to fill in whats left.

No big gifts for DH and this pregnancy is my first baby (though she has a ton of gifts... lol). DH decided to order me a custom diaper bag which we chose the elements for together, so thats exciting for me. lol

I'm done with the kids/little cousins, but not the grandparents or DH. I always go to Toys R Us on Black Friday, since all 3 boys birthdays are in Dec/Jan. No wrapping started yet.

Got the almost 4 year old the Hot Wheels Ultimate Garage. It's the only thing he's been asking Santa for. We got the twins matching motorized ride-ons that were half price! Woot!
