The first giant tray of Christmas cookies arrived in my office this morning and at 9:30 here I sit shoving my face with them.
What are your favorite cookies, do you have family traditions revolved around cookie making? Do you have a recipe that you would like to share?
My favorite cookies are the peanutbutter ones with the hersheys kiss in the middle, sugar cookies with frosting and ones that my mother makes that are chocolate sour cream cookies- I don't know how to describe them but they are so delicious and I could eat an entire batch of those.
I have sister who is three years older than me and she and my mother are very into the traditional "family" image of the holidays. Probably because they cared so much I rebelled against it especially as a pre-teen and teenager. I don't necessarily rebel against it now, but I don't go out of my way to act different around the holidays. We used to do a day of cookie making the three of us and my sister used to decorate every single one of her sugar cookies using paint brushes and tweezers so that she could make them as beautiful as possible. They truly were beautiful, but since I was such a little jerk I would just slap the icing on and pour some sprinkles and be done with it and want to leave. I remember them being so frustrated with me but also trying so hard not to be mad because it would ruin the happy family picture they wanted. I'm half laughing and half crying remembering it- must be the hormones.

Re: GTKY- christmas cookie season
Every year I get together with my mom, sister, aunts, and cousins to spend a whole day baking. In fact, we just did our cookie baking Saturday. Now the hard part will be not eating too many (wouldn't want to go to my next appt having gained 10lbs. Haha)
Growing up we always did the cutout sugar cookies with the sprinkles and whatnot. I carried it on for awhile then switched to a sour cream cutout that required frosting. I've since ditched those too lol.
Every year I go over my parents house and me and my mom bake cookies. I do most of the mixing and she follows behind me cleaning up...it works out quite well
I usually make Snickerdoodles, Molasses Sugar Cookies, Spritz cookies (red, green and white dough), coconut jam thumbprints, Russian teacakes and chocolate chip for my dad lol. I feel like there's another one too that I'm forgetting. I may cut back on some of them this year but we'll see. Cookie making day is set for Dec 18th
Also now my mom come over and we bake for like two days straight, which will be this weekend
I don't have a favorite cookies but my moms sugar cookie snowmen are awesome. I usually switch up the cookies I make so it's different eveyyear. Plus with Pinterest there are sooo many recipes to try.
This year I'm making white chocolate cherry, sugar cutouts, peanut butter balls, rum sticks, mint choc chip, and prbly some more.
I will say I'm a messy baker and drive my mom and hubby insane but I love it
My mom always makes the cut out sugar cookies. But the best ones are the jam creamettes. They are these light flaky cookies that are almost like a fluffy pie crust only their sweet. Then you put red current in them and sandwich them. I could eat them all. They are so good!
DH's family gets together every year to make cookies...well all the women do. They make these buttermilk drop sugar cookies that put all other sugar cookies to shame lol. They are so good! Then peanut butter cookies, chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin rolls, peanut butter balls and coconut balls. They make several dozen of everything and I usually spend our Christmases with them stuffing my face with cookies and treats lol

I'm not a big cookie decorator, but plan to do sugar cookies with LO this year when we put the tree up (this weekend).
I've been testing out a lot of new cookie recipes lately and keep telling my husband it's "so I know what recipes to use for the holiday cookie tray this year". That might be a lie. I haven't decided if I will do cookie trays this year
