*** Weekly Appointment Thread: 12/7-12/20***

Since this thread normally only gets about 10 response I made it go for two weeks. Hope this is okay with everyone. Let me know! :)

How far along are you?

How did your appointment go overall?

Any ultrasound or doppler?

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot?

Re: *** Weekly Appointment Thread: 12/7-12/20***

  • How far along are you? 18w 5 days

How did your appointment go overall? We had our A/S which was so exciting but we are scheduled for a level 2 ultrasound due to them seeing a shadow on the heart. So I have to wait till the 22nd and maintain my sanity somehow.

Any ultrasound or doppler? HB at 150

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot? I forgot to ask about tearing down there during delivery - what the normal procedure is there anything to lessen ahead of time etc.

How did your appointment go overall? Pretty good. We were able to find the HB on the doppler, which we couldn't do last time. My dr forget to take my weight ;)  Kinda scary, but I am being tested for Preeclampsia. I told my self I wasn't going to google it, but I just googled it and it freaked me out. Trying not to worry about it until after we get the results.

    Any ultrasound or doppler? Doppler.

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot? I had 2 questions
1- Does the hospital have parking? Yes, this was a legit question. My dr probably thinks I am a moron
2- Whats delayed cord clamping, do you practice and whats the benefits? Yes they practice and encourage it, so that makes me happy to hear.

  • @yogahh I have been doing some research on delayed cord calming and I think I will be asking for that. Glad to hear your Dr is on board :)
  • @yogahh what made them want to test you for pre-e? Are you showing any symptoms? I hope they are just taking extra precaution!

Not bad but I'm a little frustrated. It was the midwife this time as my doctor isn't in on Wednesdays and I just wasn't as confident with her.

    Any ultrasound or doppler?
Yes this is where the frustration comes in. I am carrying twins and she was having a hard time finding their heartbeats with the Doppler even though my doctor finds them easily. She eventually did and said she could hear lots of movement, but I'm not convinced she heard both babies' heartbeats and not just one twice. So now I'm kinda worried but she didn't want to do an ultrasound since I have my anatomy scan next Monday. Ugh.

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot?
I didn't really have any questions! Just excited and anxious for our A/S
  • @yogahh what made them want to test you for pre-e? Are you showing any symptoms? I hope they are just taking extra precaution!

High blood pressure, much higher than expected at second tri. I think I was just nervous... Atleast that's what I hope!!

How did your appointment go overall? I had my a/s on the 7th and my monthly appt on the 8th. Both went well. The anatomy scan looked good. They wanted to continue to monitor my Ever annoying fibroid, but not as closely as originally thought...so that is wonderful news. And of course, finding out that we have a little girl!

Any ultrasound or doppler? Both, given the back to back appts.

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot?
    1. The MFM Doctor was able to discuss the potential consequences of the fibroid. He really feels like the placement of it won't limit me to a c-section and likely won't lead to preterm labor, so all of that is a huge relief.

I had high blood pressure my whole pregnancy the first time around. But I had "white coat syndrome." It would be high at the doc's office, but at home or anywhere else it would be normal. I think I must just have a sensitive body when it comes to nerves/stress. I hope that's the case for you too!

@ Sunshinebins  It irked me too when my OBs never tried to get each twin - they would get one with the doppler and move on.  The twins were found at an early US at the infertility office, and then not seen again until the AS.  I felt much better when I could feel each of them move!

yogahh  Are you doing Pre-E bloodwork or the 24 hr urine collection?  Good Luck to you!

    ETA:
yogahh  but just in case, keep the signs/symptoms of Pre-E in the back of your head for later in your pregnancy:  headache, blurred vision, right upper stomach pain, in addition to high BP and protein in your urine - although presentation can vary.

  • @JennyS86 that actually makes me feel a little better that it wasn't just this midwife. Luckily we've gotten to see our twins multiple times, I would've gone crazy otherwise! But I feel like dopplers just aren't the best for multiples
  • How far along are you? 15w6d - the appointment was last Tuesday at 14w4d, but I was waiting for the new thread to post :)

How did your appointment go overall? Amazing! At this no-more-morning-sickness-but-not-yet-showing stage, I was so anxious to get another confirmation that there actually is a little bugger inside of me. And my OB is the cutest, smiliest, happiest woman I've ever met - she's so popular her schedule is slammed and she speeds through the appointment, but always makes me feel so warm and fuzzy at the same time.

Any ultrasound or doppler? Doppler - I was so anxious to hear it and worried that she wouldn't find a heartbeat, but that thing started pounding away the instant it touched my belly, so apparently the little guy is sitting front and center! HB was 145ish.

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot? Asked for her to give me some good info on why flu/whooping cough vaccines are necessary for my husband - I have already started down this road but knew it would be good if I had some quotes to encourage him (he isn't anti-vaccine in general, just doesn't like putting stuff in his own body, so hoping he sees the bigger picture soon)! She was really encouraging though, just said that she would never recommend someone do something that she didn't believe was 100% safe, but also that she wouldn't be super pushy about it if she talked to him directly about it.

Also did my quad screening and got results already - all clear, which is good news, but given that I'm 29yo, low-risk, wondering if I should have bothered doing them at all. Happy to have peace of mind though.
  • How far along are you? 18w + 1 day (I think).

How did your appointment go overall? It was great. Finally figured out that I feel pressure in my lower abdomen/pelvic region because my kid hangs out basically on my bladder most times. Had my A/S today. Everything looks "good" and "normal." Baby is measuring almost a week ahead and is in the 65th percentile. So I'm gonna gear myself up for a bigger baby.

Any ultrasound or Doppler? Ultrasound. Heartbeat was 150.

Did the doctor answer your questions? Yes, my placenta previa has resolved itself. I can do light exercise now. I'm off pelvic rest!
  • How far along are you? 19w5d How did your appointment go overall? Exhausting, but ultimately good! Any ultrasound or doppler? I had two ultrasounds! Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot? It's story time with lalala. So we have the anatomy scan first, everything seemed fine, she mentioned all the things that were great. The umbilical cord was in the way for a good shot, but she was confident it was a boy! Team blue! Then, we go to my doctor and she says there were two concerns. There were some cysts on the babies brain which is usually fine and resolves itself, but when combined with other factors could be Trisomy 18. She also said the kidneys were dilated slightly more than average. They also weren't able to get good images of the heart. Those things sent me to the high risk doctor next store. I was trying not to freak out, but I just found out I'm having a boy, and we have a name, and now there might be something wrong! A lot to take in. Fortunately I get to see the doctor soon. I have another scan first, and she is able to get pictures of the heart. The doctor comes in and looks at the u/s yet again. He says there isn't any reason to be concerned, it's definitely a boy, and there is no reason to think he won't be heathy. They took my blood for genetic screening just in case (I didn't have any screenings before) and I go back in 5 weeks for another scan. It was quite a relief! Such an exhausting day, though, emotionally.
Oh my, I am sure that was a rollercoaster of a day. I dont even know you and went from happy, to sad, to happy again. Relieved that your 3rd appointment resulted in good news! And congrats on having a boy!

How did your appointment go overall? Pretty well, even though DH and I had to wait two hours past our scheduled appointment time to see the doctor! The office isn't normally this packed and I've never had to wait that long before, though, so I'm willing to forgive it.

Any ultrasound or doppler? We got to hear the baby's heartbeat! I've had a doppler done before, but I'm profoundly hard of hearing - I couldn't hear anything over the static at my last appointment. This time, though, the heartbeat was loud and clear! It was DH's first time going with me to one of these, so it was his first time hearing it, too. No ultrasound with the doctor's office until January, but we're going to pay the extra cash to get an elective ultrasound done elsewhere tomorrow for an early anatomy scan. My MIL is in hospice care right now, and we don't know if she'll see the new year. She's been excited about the pregnancy since we announced it, and I think it would mean a lot to her if she got to know if it's a boy or girl, even if she won't be here to see the baby when he/she is born.

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot? The lab results from my last checkup came in. Everything looks fine, except for a couple of details...like the fact that it identified me as having a totally different blood type than I thought I had. And later, while talking to a nurse before going downstairs for more labwork (because this last test identified me as being B negative, and my husband is O positive), she asked me if I was thirty weeks. Um, no, I'm definitely not thirty weeks. I am thirty years old, though, so I figured it was just a typo and that I was just mis-remembering details about my bloodwork or something. But then I told my mom about it, and she flipped out...because she swears that I'm O positive. Also, both of my parents are O positive. So either I got somebody else's lab results, or there's something my parents aren't telling me. I've been going through all of my medical records that I've had since I was a kid, and there are lots of copies of lab results, but none with my actual blood type on it. I called the doctor's office back and asked if they were absolutely sure about those results, and explained the situation, but I don't think they were taking me seriously. So now I'm freaking out because literally the best case scenario here is that they are basing my health and the health of my child on some other woman's results. And she might be basing hers on mine.

I have needle fear, but I think I'm just going to order one of those at-home blood type testing kits and hope that it shows me as being O positive, and if so, that the doctor's office (and my insurance) will let me use that as the proof that I need to get my lab work redone.

  • MrsKtobe09 You definitely need to have the correct blood type on file!  I have seen a lab read an Rh neg as an Rh pos, but never the actual blood type.  This is based on the sensitivity of the lab, not mixing up patients.  If you are B neg, you are going to need to get Rhogam, so this issue needs to be cleared up!  Let us know!

How did the appt go overall? I had 2. First one was a check up with my OB. Finally got the results back from NT scan and 1st/2nd trimester. My numbers were 1 in 100,000. Then I had my anatomy scan. Confirmed it was a girl and she's active. She's also breech and kicking my bladder. She's about 12 oz. That's all the info they'd give me. Now I wait for those results!

    Doppler/ ultrasound? Both!

Questions or concerns: I asked about hip pain when I sleep. Normal which I figured. I asked about movement. I don't feel the baby when I'm active. Again, I figured it was normal but wanted to make sure. No real concerns this time around.
  • @MrsKtobe09 - how frustrating! I'd definitely be worried that they had mixed up my results since they got your weeks pregnant wrong too. I hope you get it sorted out quickly!

@lalala2004 - what a roller coaster! I'm glad the doctor is optimistic, and I hope your next scan and bloodwork confirm the good news.
  • I am just wondering if anybody that has already had their anatomy scan left feeling very disappointed? I had mine this morning and was very excited. We are team green so I was just excited to see, hear, and learn about baby. I expected the appointment to be about 45 minutes as most my mom friends described theirs to be.. So, we get to the appointment and the tech does her thing, doesn't really talk to us or tell us anything. I can see her typing things like "4 chamber heart" etc. but she didn't really explain anything. She let us hear the heart beat for 3 seconds, tops. She didn't tell us how long baby measured, how lungs looked, or anything. I did see her type the heart beat and weight so know those. The appointment included me going to change and doing a transvaginal exam to measure cervix length. It was still less than 30 minutes. Also, the pictures weren't that great.
Then she told me I had to come back in 3 weeks. I asked why and she said to finish what she couldn't get but didn't tell me anything else. I was very disappointed and am now feeling like I missed out on something that was supposed to be so exciting and fun. I would have liked for her to say or show some excitement and at least say "baby's looking great and is healthy!". Anyone else feel let down or were my expectations too high?
  • @allen4tl I had a similar experience yesterday at my anatomy scan. I had to have a full bladder and it was so uncomfortable. I was excited and looking forward to seeing the baby. The technician can't tell you anything. She was just taking measurements and pictures. I got to see the baby for a minute afterward. She did tell me she was 12 oz. I asked if she was measuring right where she's supposed to be and her response was "Your dr will give you those results." I left feeling a little disappointed as it wasn't all that I expected. But it's to check the anatomy. I can always go to the elective u/s place just to watch the baby and gets pics.
  • How far along are you?  16w3d

How did your appointment go overall?  Pretty good, it was a pretty quick check up.  It was a new Doctor that I hadn't met yet (my OB office wants us to be familiar with all the Dr's) and she had a male resident with her.  He's the one that found the heartbeat today.  My MIL went with to hear the heartbeat...this is her first grandbaby.  She got teary when she heard the heartbeat

Any ultrasound or doppler?  Doppler - heartbeat at an even 140!

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot?  I mentioned that I was getting heartburn after basically every meal so they prescribed me Pepcid.  I asked if I should stop laying on my back and she said it just depends, but if I'm feeling lightheaded or nauseous while laying on my back then I need to move.  She also mentioned my bloodtype was A+, which I was told last appointment but had forgotten so I'm glad she mentioned it this time, but that I won't have to worry about the RH incompatibility or anything.
  • How far along are you? 18w3d

How did your appointment go overall?
My appointment took FOREVER. Not necessarily the appointment but waiting! My practice only has a doctor and a midwife on staff due to the female doctor (whom I LOVE) having her baby. The doctor was covering the practice and the hospital and he got an emergency call, so I sat and waited. I always think that if I had an emergency I would want the doctor to come to me asap... Trying to be empathic but I seriously hate waiting.
The doctor came in 45 minutes later and apologized for the wait.
I also had my blood drawn for the genetic screening (not sure of the correct name). The nurse basically told me that my insurance covers this test so I agreed to get it done.

    Any ultrasound or doppler?
Doppler. Heartbeat was 145bpm! Baby was a wiggle worm.. He would find the heartbeat and than lose it. He said that my uterus is 18cm so the baby has a lot of room to move around. He actually "captured" the baby by pressing on my belly with his hands and eliminating some of the room.

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot?
I didn't have any questions per say. I was scheduled to have my anatomy scan on 12/30 but they rescheduled me for a week before!! So I'll get to see this LO and ensure his/her health before Christmas ((bonus knowing the sex before Christmas))!!

I was 14w5d at my appointment on 12/10.

How did your appointment go overall?
Good, pretty uneventful (which I am thankful for!)
I was a little frustrated that I had arrived 20 min early to my appointment that was supposed to be at 3:30, didn't get called out of the waiting room until 4, and then didn't see my doctor until 20-25 minutes after that. I do understand these things happen, but they should provide pregnant women with some snacks if we're going to have to wait that long!

    Any ultrasound or doppler?
    Doppler. HB was 145.

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot?
Since I'll be 18 weeks at my next 4 week appointment, I asked if they would do the anatomy scan then, but she said I had to wait until I am 20 weeks.

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot? I asked a lot of questions to the ultrasound tech. If I was curious, I didn't hesitate to ask. Right now, I don't think there is anything I forgot to ask, but I'm sure I might think of something by later tonight.

Hkw did your apt go overall? We had a fetal echocardiogram that took forever and a day. Later in the afternoon we had a level 2 ultrasound. Baby's heart looked great and no issues were found during the level 2. They confirmed we are having a baby girl! We were scheduled for another level 2 at 32 weeks to make sure everything is still looking good. (Both apts were due to having a nuchal translucency reading of 3.9 at our first trimester screening)

    any ultrasound or Doppler? Yes

Did your Dr or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot?  Yes, we were relieved to hear everything looked great with the baby at the level 2 and at the echo. We had all our questions answered, thankfully.

How did your appt go? We had or anatomy scan- it went really well. Baby measured 19wk 1day. The US tech said everything looks perfectly normal. This was a HUGE relief, I've been worrying for about 2 weeks!!! Also, We found out the sex at 16 weeks but it was confirmed today that it is indeed a boy :-)

    US/dopplar- 148 BPM

  • How far along are you? 18 weeks tomorrow

How did your appointment go overall?  Very well

Any ultrasound or doppler?  Doppler- heartbeat was 150 bpm

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Was there anything you wanted to bring up but forgot?  The OB offered me the quad screen but said that since I had the harmony test it wasn't really necessary.  They will be checking for neural tube defects at the anatomy scan so I decided not to get the screening.  She knows I have anxiety over these prenatal tests so she agreed with me.  I asked her about all of the sharp pains I've been getting in my uterus area and she said the ligaments are stretching and it gets worse with each pregnancy. She said not to worry as long as the pain goes away when I rest.  I am so glad to have such a great OB and staff.  I always feel reassured after my appointments.

No doctor except to give us a brief, "Everything looks good!" after our sonographer finished the scan and consulted with him. She was awesome! She explained everything that we were seeing, gave us percentiles of the measurements along the way, worked with the flow of how our little guy was moving (he was moving a lot) and would point out his positioning to us as he settled in place each time so that I could get a better sense of what his different body parts felt like when he moved and be able to better distinguish his position on my own. She took a bunch of pictures for us too!
