Cramping and pressure

I'm 33 weeks 5 days. Over the last week I have had cramping. I am a teacher and it seems to be worse in the afternoons after working. The cramps are like period cramps that I normally have right before I start. Is this normal? I called the nurse and they said just drink water. All I drink is water and all day long so I don't see how it could be dehydration. Anyone else experiencing this or something similar?

Re: Cramping and pressure

  • I have! And it sounds like you need to just drink even more water and try and stay off your feet. Then if it continues call again.

  • Yeah I actually just posted a thread on this a few days ago! Mine have been going on and off for like over a week now, and today they were so terrible I felt like I could've thrown up. A few women I've talked to who just had babies said those are Braxton-hicks and they're normal at this stage. They really suck though.
  • Im not 100% that they are braxton hicks to be honest. As PP said, drink oodles of water and call if they persist. Iv been getting BH from about week 16. Now that im 35 weeks, and there is a big baby in there, BH can sometimes be so intense Im completely distracted, have to sit down and really concentrate. I get them to varying degrees, probably 50 times a day. Although they can be super uncomfortable, they are definately never painful.
  • I've had cramping my entire pregnancy. It happens randomly. Contractions too if I'm on my feet. My dr always tells me that if the cinteractions don't get better with water and rest that I should be seen. So far I've made it to almost 37 and I'm cramping as we speak. Hope it's not too rough on you.
  • I have been experiencing the same thing this past week. Period like cramping and pressure as well. Same with you the nurse told me to drink more water, did and they stopped. I did go to my weekly doctors appointment yesterday and she checked I am 4 cm dialated. I am currently 35 weeks 6 days with second child. You may want to follow up with your doctor to make sure everything is great.
  • Had an appointment today and asked about these mystery cramps! She said they are Braxton-hicks and they're actually a good thing cause it means your body is getting good preparation :)
  • Mine are getting horrible! Every day, I get them now. Dont see my ob till next week but he isnt concerned. He wont stop labor now!
  • I was having cramping tonight hat bothered me so much that it woke me up. I am at labour and delivery now getting this checked out. I feel silly being here!!!! But I haven't experienced and cramps like this and/Braxton hicks and I just got scared. So they are monitoring baby and I am just waiting to see what the doctor says... FTM here... It's been a complicated pregnancy and it is safe to say that my nerves are just shot. Scheduled induction for Jan 10... I am sure everything is fine, I just need the doctor to tell me that.
  • Keep in mind- even if you think you are drinking heaps of water- you body is using so much more of it than it would usually- and- on top of that, you can be storing it as "fluid" so honestly, just try drinking a little more, as you would be surprised how easy it is to get dehydrated!
  • More water and a very bland diet is what the doctor ordered for me after my little trip to labour and delivery last night... They kept me there from 2 am - 12 pm. Baby was kicking away, but I still had cramps. Nausea and cramping combined can be a sign of labour starting and so they wanted to make sure... And this is probably TMI - but when that nurse checked my cervix it hurt!!! Due to circumstances I have not been sexually active since June... I blurted out "I have no idea how a baby is supposed to fit through there after that!!" and she assured me that he would :/! Ouch!!! 26 more days until induction day... I don't know why, but I just really feel like he is going to be born before then...
