How many weeks?

I had my first ultrasound today.

Yay me! However, according to baby's size I'm not as far along as I thought I was. If I count based on my last period it would be 9 weeks and 1 day, but baby's size says 6 weeks and 5 days. I'm really quite shocked, 3 weeks is a big difference. Anyone else get this type of surprising news?

I have not experienced this but I would be calling radiologist and doctor as to what is going on with your baby. You thinking you're 9 weeks and them telling you that you are 6 six weeks is a major difference. Either you ovulated late and did not know because you were not temping or something else is off. Either way, I'd be wanting more answers

If they aren't concerned, then you shouldn't be. But PP is right, you may have just ovulated late.

I'm supposed to be having an appointment soon with a maternal fetal medicine physician soon anyway for another reason due to the fact I'm also high risk. So I will definitely be asking them. But we did see the baby on the screen and even the heartbeat too which was normal. Because of that reason I'm not as worried, just surprised.

You probably ovulated late. If you weren't temping you can't know for sure. If Doctor wasn't concerned then neither should you be. Good luck!

At my 1st ultrasound my baby was 3 days behind. At the next 2, each 2 weeks apart, baby measured 3 days ahead of each days expected age. I panicked and asked my RE what was messing w the measurements and he said when they measure with the point click on the screen, any little millimeter difference can mean several days age difference with the calculation, and not actually mean anything as far as baby's actual size. 6 weeks 5 days and 9 weeks 1 in that regard is really more like 2 weeks difference, which like PP said could point to later ovulation or perhaps that and just minor measurements being off together making it look like a huge difference. But good news is you saw a functioning heart! I would focus on that right now.

I thought I was going to be 8-9w at my first appointment but was 6w4d. They said I ovulated late and everything was measuring great for that size so not to be concerned. They are rechecking in a week to make sure measuring well but they didnt seem concerned at all.

When I went for my 1st OBGYN appointment, I was 8w3d based on LMP. When they measured baby, I measured spot on. It shocked me because I wasn't temping/charting or using ovulation sticks (or whatever they're called). It was literally by accident that we had conceived, as DH and I JUST got married in September and weren't planning on TTC until the new year. At my NT u/s, baby was measuring 3 days AHEAD of schedule, but like @Jyoung327 said, even a millimeter can make a few days difference.
