Fan and Humidifier--so dry

Ok ladies. I have the world's stupidest question. This pregnancy and last time I was pregnant my skin has been so very dry. I wake up with cracked lips in the morning no matter how much Chapstick I slather on all night long or how much water I drink. Anyway, I have started using a humidifier but since I also use a fan (I cannot sleep without the air flow and white noise) I feel like it cancels out the humidifier. The fan dries the air the humidifier is trying to moisten. Does anyone have a solution for this?!

Re: Fan and Humidifier--so dry

  • I used to have to have a fan for noise and airflow.  I eventually had to get used to just using a white noise maker since the fan makes DH's throat hurt.  I got used to it!

Maybe you can get a tiny little fan to put next to your bed for some air circulation (a small one that wouldn't really cause much air disruption in the room), and have the humidifier?

  • I actually find the fan helpful with the humidifier to move the moisture around in the air.

  • They actually make humidifiers with fans in one. Maybe that would be better since it would blow the hunid air towards you instead of dry the air around you out with 2 separate devices. Just a thought, but its worth a shot! All I know is the humidifier has saved me the last few weeks, I wouldnt be able to sleep without it! Good luck!
  • Make sure you change the fan setting from blowing air down, to blowing air up--it circulates the humidity better that way and doesn't dry the air out!

  • I use a tower air purifier and a humidifier. The air purifier makes enough noise and circulates the air but not as extreme as a fan. I have noticed a difference just sleeping with the air purifier overnight. I usually don't wake up stuffy, but this pregnancy I'm stuffy even with the humidifier added to the air purifier.
  • I like PPs replies. I will just add that Chapstick does not moisten lips. There are lots of other ones you can check into...but I always avoided it bc I read (and experienced) that the more you use it, the more you need it. Whole Foods, the internet, or a natural foods place may have better moisturizing choices. Even coconut oil.

I'm not sure that a fan could dry out the moisture. Have you tried to experiment? Also, we have a temp/moisture $10 little thingy that reads that stuff. That might help you determine how much your humidifier is kicking out. Might not be enough for the size of your room, esp if you keep the door open.

  • That's for the responses. I will definitely try some of these suggestions, particularly measuring the humidity level and possibly trying a humidifier/fan combo.

@peregrinefalconx Also, I used Chapstick as a generic term, I actually use a salve from Whole Foods with beeswax, olive oil, cocoa butter, calendula, chamomile and tocopherols but good point!!
