Hip and tailbone pain

I'm 12 weeks and have been having horrible hip and tailbone pain for the last 2 weeks. Is it normal to be this uncomfortable already? It's the same pain I've had when overtraining for a marathon.

Re: Hip and tailbone pain

  • Oh, the tailbone pain! I have been having such bad pain back there. I was told that it was normal due to the ligaments relaxing and things are shifting down there. I find it comforting to lay in a hammock as it takes pressure off.

  • I have also started having tailbone pain at 11 weeks. It feels like its cracking right down the middle, lol. Honestly, I don't remember having it this early with my first two, but I'm sure it's normal. Like PP said, I read that it has to do with you muscles starting to relax everywhere.

  • Thank you ladies. It makes sense it's ligaments as I pulled ligaments several years ago running and it feels the same. I knew I would have pain eventually, I just didn't think this early.

  • I have been having tailbone pain, too!!  So glad I saw this! I asked about it on my ticker change day last week but didn't get an answer.  I guess none of those ladies have experienced it.  No back pain though.  Weird.

  • I don't have tailbone pain, but good grief do my hips hurt. I've been tossing and turning every night because if I lie in any one position for longer than 5 minutes, my hips start to ache. No bueno. I have a feeling it will only get worse :-(
  • I have been having pain too. I think it's in my SI joint at the base of my spine. I used to get it off and on if I was laying in certain positions (flat on my back on a hard surface like in yoga, etc) but now I feel it a LOT more often. And it likes to come and go as it pleases so it's always a surprise! Yay! hahaha
  • So glad I saw this thread. My tailbone has been hurting so bad for the past week. Heaven forbid I sit longer than an hour and then I get up and it almost feels broken.

  • Hip pain all the way! Haha! I always have the hip problems due to my bone structure, and it is not fun. I've also started to get some pretty serious sciatica pain as well. Laying down and pretty much sitting on a heat pack in the evening seems to help loosen it up. I keep meaning to look up some good stretches, but haven't yet if anyone has any ideas!
  • Yes! I had this horribly with my first and started with a pre-natal chiropractor at 20 weeks. I've already started going to him this time around. It really really really helps!

  • @Philter14 I've been thinking about a chiropractor, good to know if helps.

  • The top of my thigh bones where there meet my hips are killing me! Hurts to stand "tall". I put it down to everything changing, stretching, and moving like others have said.

  • My tailbone up to my middle back is killing me. So glad I'm not the only one. I always assume I'm just being a whiner about pain since I don't know exactly what to expect at 13 weeks. FTM...so much I didn't know about the process and learning something new every single day.
  • I haven't had the tailbone pain but I've had back pain and slight hip pain...sleeping is starting to get uncomfortable..nothing but tossing and turning.

Hip pain for sure! It feels like it's splitting in half. Think of it as preparation for labour. I felt that pain (but obviously stronger) when my contractions were in full swing.
  • I've had all three: hip pain, tailbone pain, and the lower back pain! I was just telling my husband that I was going to get a cushion for my chair at work! And sleep is getting harder too! I stay in one position for awhile, then have to shift because one of those 3 spots is killing me! Glad to know I'm not the only one!

  • My hips have been bothering me since about week 6, but only at night if I sleep on one side for too long. The tailbone pain just started about 2 weeks ago (at around 12 weeks). It really does feel like something is breaking back there. So painful! Especially after sitting for too long or walking for too long, or just simply moving in a wierd way. Ah glad I'm not the only one. I've been having my husband massage the muscle right around the tailbone and that seems to help, in that moment.
