Missed motn feed and supply

I tried searching for the thread that addressed this but couldn't find it! Mobile
Bumping is a pain. If you guys have that handy, pls link :) I'll be so appreciative!

What do you ladies do to keep up supply when you baby starts sleeping through the night? Lo is starting to sleep longer stretches and doesn't feed the way he used to. I'm worried about my supply diminishing.

If you guys wake to pump, what time do you do that and for how long? I woke up totally engorged and had to pump before feeding ds this morning (I already have a really strong letdown and didn't want to drown him in foremilk)

I wasn't sure how much to pump befpre the feeding. I also woke in a panic bc I realized we missed the 3am feed/diaper change! Anyway for those that have been through this, how do I adapt? What other changes can I expect during the day?

Thanks so much!

Re: Missed motn feed and supply

  • I'd probably just wake up engorged, pump a bit so I don't drown LO and feed till supply adjusts. I suck at pumping especially MOTN lately.
  • Loading the player...
  • I wouldn't over feed LO, I would just keep up with that cycle till my supply adjusts...poor grammar!
  • If baby doesn't wake up MOTN then neither do I. I don't get up to pump either. If I feel uncomfortable then I will hand pump for a fee minutes. It won't affect your supply since you are meeting the demands of your LO. In fact if you pump and baby doesn't need it then you might create an oversupply.
  • I pump every morning for 15 minutes either before or after she eats. She still wakes throught the night to nurse but eats just enough to soothe herself and falls back asleep. In the morning I am super full. Even if she nurses right away, I can get about 8 ounces in 15 minutes immediately after she is done. The rest of the day my supply is right on and I use my pumped milk for DH to give her a bottle when he gets home.
  • I talked to the LC about this. She said as long as you don't need those MOTN feedings for a freezer stock to let your body wake you up and tell you it needs relief.

LO is still up every 2-3 hours, but when he sleeps longer I plan to set an alarm to pump
once per night to keep up my stash.
