Pregnant after a loss. Anyone else?

Unfortunately, in early November, I had a miscarriage and somehow got pregnant again without having a period in between. I am ecstatic.

I don't know my due date. I don't know how far along I am. And I'm absolutely terrified as well as so grateful and excited. (Im probably between 3+5 and 5 weeks)

How does it work in terms of monitoring?

When would you push for a 48 hour hcg test? (My midwife doesn't want me coming in for bloodwork for TWO WEEKS).

Any advice is welcome. Thanks, all.

Re: Pregnant after a loss. Anyone else?

  • I'm sorry for your loss. Most OBs will not do anything special as miscarriages are unfortunately just a common event. You'll have to just wait for your first appointment.

Many of us here are PGAL (pregnant after loss). Feel free to join us in the weekly PGAL check-in. You can find the most recent one a few threads down.

  • @Kristin712 good to know! Thanks.

    Hoping to stay positive!
  • I had a loss in late Sept and am now pregnant again...about 4 weeks along! Good luck to you!
  • We lost our babes in June. Terrified for our dating u/s in 2 weeks. Trying to keep the positive thoughts flowing!
  • So sorry @mkossowan. How many weeks are you now

    Congrats!

I also had a loss at the end of September at 9+1 (but baby was only 7+5). I'm now 5+2 (edd 8/6/15 but will find out for sure on the 17th at my first scan) and had my 48 hr blood draw last Thursday and Saturday. Waiting for my results.

I had a much longer post but once posted it disappeared! Long and short of it, my doctor let me do the early blood draws and we'll do weekly ultrasounds from 7 weeks to end of the first trimester, just for peace of mind even though I've only had one loss. It can't hurt to ask your doctor what you can do.

  • My OB had me come in as soon as I got a positive HPT, but it was mainly because they wanted to check my progesterone to make sure it wasn't low (it was, and I'm now on oral supplements for it). They checked my HCG to make sure it was doubling too, which is a nice reassurance but it's still sooo early that anything could happen.

Do you know what caused the last loss? Did they already check to make sure your progesterone was normal? If you know that isn't an issue, then I wouldn't worry too much. There's only so much you can do this early in your pregnancy anyway.

    Best of luck <3

  • @allishally13 I'm jealous that you get to have weekly ultrasounds. They aren't even acknowledging my loss as revelevent. And maybe it isn't. But I'm scared to lose another baby. Praying for awesome hcg results for you
  • @1faceinacrowd no idea what caused the last loss. I had very early bleeding (I thought it was my period), then my hcg levels doubled and we thought we were in the clear, and then I miscarried.
I want to go in to have my progesterone tested ASAP as well as an hcg series but they are saying that it is best to wait 2 weeks. I put a call into my midwife. I can always pregnant cry on the phone if need be
  • Thank you! Based on my period and ovulation dates, I should be due around Aug 15th.
  • @ThePax89 I was really surprised my doctor offered anything after one loss, I don't think it's the norm. She was the same doctor who did my d&c, so I feel really blessed to have found her and an office that I so far really like. A nurse called today but the doctor hasn't signed off on the results yet. The nurse did say my levels look really good though, so feeling a lot more relaxed.

Your loss is real, and hopefully if you insist they will give you the peace of mind of a blood test. Fingers crossed for you!

  • Yeah @allishally13
I just want to be super diligent. Even though I can't prevent anther loss.
  • We lost our first one on September 14th and now 4 weeks 6 days pregnant.
I had blood work done at 3 weeks 5 days and 4 weeks.
My levels went from 437 to 1806 in 48 hours. I am thinking I am pregnant with twins. Since they doubled twice in 48 hours.
I was surprised my ob let me get blood work done after only 1 m/c but she is pregnant too so maybe she had a little more compassion.
  • Wow! Those levels seen so high! Nice :)@tjsjourney
  • I'm pregnant after a loss. Loss was at about 8 weeks close to my 35 birthday. Had a natural mc. They don't want to do any testing unless I have another mc. I pushed that because of my advanced maternal age but they are firm.

I had one cycle with no detected ovulation. Second cycle we caught ovulation. About 4 weeks now post first day last period. 2 weeks post ovulation.
I'm hopeful but nervous. I don't feel like I can get comfortable yet. My husband has treated depression and the loss was really hard for him and for me, plus supporting him. But we both wanted to try again. We do have a 1 year old so I know I can carry a little one to term.

  • Sorry for your lost
At 34 weeks my baby boy was stillborn and had delivered him September 17 2015 and I'm pregnant again my doctor told me that's fine and after a loss women usually bounce right back with another
  • @jamanisowell I am so truly sorry.
  • I just got a bfp today after an early mc in September (so second cycle after mc). Left a message with my OB because I know she wants to draw betas and progesterone this time. So scared.
  • Good luck @kattyleigh
I just went for my hcg/progesterone today. I feel slightly better knowing I got the test. Just praying for a sticky babe
  • @ThePax89 thank you, you too. Going for my betas next week. I think I'll be pacing until then!
  • This is my 4th pregnancy this year, I still can't believe it when the words come out of my mouth. Natural miscarriage in jan., d&c in july and a chemical pregnancy at the end of october. I did not have a cycle in between my last miscarriage and my bfp. I am so cautiously excited, I haven't even told my husband yet. Everytime in the past, he has told friends and family and it has been devastating. I just got my first hcg and progesterone blooded done this afternoon at my fertility doctor. Im only 25 and found out recently that I probably have APS. I have been on baby aspirin all week and might be getting blood thinner injections in the tummy everyday. I'm just hoping it's a sticky one this time!!! Good luck to everyone!
